Shimmer Shy? Meet Your Dream Highlighter

Allow me to take you on a quick trip down memory lane. The year was 1996, and I would have done anything to get my hands on two things: the Union Jack mini-dress worn by Spice Girl’s Geri Halliwell (aka Ginger Spice) and in-your-face, glitter-packed makeup. As I was just entering the 4th grade, my mom wasn’t too keen on letting me go all AWOL with sparkly eye shadows and glittery lipsticks. Thus, I decided to take matters into my own hands.

My then BFF and partner-in-crime, Eleanor and I devised a simple, yet ingenious plan to score the glittery stuff: we’d swipe a bottle of craft glitter during art class. While the art teacher wasn’t looking, Ellie snatched the bottle, and tossed it into her Spice Girl’s backpack. (I hope you’re sensing a theme, here.)

We shuffled off to the bathroom and applied the sparkly contraband onto our eyelids. Strutting back to our regular classroom, we anticipated a wave of admiration from our fellow 8-year-olds. Instead, our stunned and terrified teacher, Mrs. Khan, quickly informed us that craft glitter had razor sharp, pupil-tearing edges. We were rushed down to a science lab and subjected to one of those scary-looking water fountains used to treat chemical burns. True story.

Whether the threat was real or Mrs. Khan was just teaching us a valuable lesson about stealing art supplies, I’ll never know. But one thing is for sure: I’ve had a phobia of shimmery makeup and craft projects ever since.

Now that I’m older, wiser, and more makeup savvy, I know there is a great adult version of the shimmer makeup I once craved so badly. Meet Manna Kadar Cosmetic’s sheer glow shimmer lotion. This silky liquid illuminator gives skin a pretty gleam. Plus, it is incredibly versatile. You can mix it with your foundation for a subtle glow or apply on its own to cheekbones, brow bones, collarbones, and anywhere else you’d like to catch the light. The pinky opalescence hue works well with all skin tones and because it’s super sheer it only stands out in the right circumstances. (Think: posing for an iPhone photo.) For highlighter shy makeup lovers out there, I can personally attest to its wonders.

Right now is a great time to familiarize yourself with this exclusive must-have, because some of our lucky subscribers will be sampling it in their December Birchboxes! And it gets even better, the complexion flattering hue we’re sampling, Birchbox Love, can only be found in our online shop. Shine, shine, shine on!
