Board shorts have been dominating the style of beachgoing guys for a whileat least on American shoresand theyre still going strong. We get the appeal: Theyre loose and laidback, and they keep much of your lower half shielded from the sun. Plus, for a man lacking Olympic-caliber glutes, they provide ample coverage.
The speedo, on the other hand, was made to be noticed. Its sparse-yet-supportive cut allows for maximum mobility (and, yes, exposure)making it the leading choice of swimmers and the super svelte.
But why this great divide? Should board shorts be embraced by uber-athletes? Can a Dad Bod rock a speedo with pride? Perhaps this is the summer to step our of our comfort zones.
Which side are you on? Tell us in the comments. And speaking of lower-body coverage, check out what the ladies of Birchbox had to say about the length of your shorts.
