Spring Beauty Trends

Sunny days are here again! Spring has sprung and no one is happier than us. Gone are the days of puffy jackets and turtlenecks—we need to relocate our sunglasses and open-toe shoes ASAP. While we’re at it, where’s the nearest ice cream truck? In honor of the cheeriest season, we’ve got the best spring beauty trends and how to make them fit your style.

Matte Lips

Forget the high shine look of glosses — this season is all about the lusterless pout. Matte lips were all over the runways during both the Spring 2011 and Fall 2011 shows, which means it’s worth investing in some glam shades. Best of all, the look is incredibly wearable and sophisticated, and works in a spectrum of colors. Watch our matte lips tutorial with makeup artist Nam Vo to get started.

Braids Away

Romantic and whimsical, pretty plaits have been making their way down the catwalk for several seasons now, but this time around, they were intentionally messy and disheveled. Our current favorite, the fishtail, looks intricate, but is actually very easy. Check out our step-by-step guide to recreate it yourself.

Vitamin C

Orange is the color of the moment, with lipstick, eyeshadows, and blushes coming in all shades of coral and tangerine. It’s much, much more wearable than you’d think, especially if you start with a light gloss or sheer apricot-toned blush. Read our orange lips beauty dare for more inspiration.

Bronze Away

Healthy, tawny skin is a perennial trend and this season featured plenty of ‘70s beachy goddess looks. Get the glow (sans the sun damage, of course) with a self-tanner — use our cheat sheet to ensure an even, all-over color. Or watch our video to learn how to use powder bronzer to get a healthy look in mere seconds.

Feather Fiend

US Weekly doesn’t lie: feather hair extensions are the biggest celebrity craze since nail art (more on that in a moment). They’re eye-catching (in a good way), and surprisingly wearable. Read all about them in our Test Drive: Hair Feathers story and pick up your own set in our shop.

Finger Paint

From Tracy Reese to Alice + Olivia, designers have found that custom nail art is the best accessory for their fanciful fashions. Learn all about the booming nail art trend, and find out how to rock the look yourself.
