Summer passes by in a flash, so make sure you set aside time to plan a few adventures that capitalize on summer Fridays, sunny weather, and the carefree attitude the season inspires. Don’t think of trip planning as a stressful chore. Plotting your summer escape should be fun. I always keep a summer wishlist of places I want to visit. This year I wanted to stick close to home, so I made a list of long weekend escapes around America that combine great food with outdoor adventures to keep all of the indulgence in check. For inspiration, I turned to my company's website, Afar.com, where I can quickly sort through thousands of incredible recommendations written by the staff and writers here, as well as local experts picked by the other editors.
For my wish list, I searched words like surf, kayak, yoga, and hike and discovered hundreds of ideas for great active getaways. I saved my favorites to a trip plan folder that I titled “Break a Sweat this Summer.” It includes things like my go-to bike ride in Aspen, the best place to stay and play in Santa Cruz, and an incredible yoga festival in Vermont.
