Curly hair talk? I'm always up for that convo! Since the humidity in New York can be brutal, the summer months are the hardest on my spirals. While I’m still learning to embrace my curls, here are a few of the tricks I've picked up to keep my lion’s mane tamed:
1. Skip Daily Shampoos
While shampooing every day might seem like a good idea, it strips your scalp of the natural oils it needs to be healthy. Instead stick to a routine of shampoo and conditioner one day and just conditioner the next. Invest in a good shampoo and conditioner specifically for curly hair. Right now I'm using EverCurl Hydracharge shampoo and conditioner by L’OREAL. It's 100% sulfate-free—a plus when you have curly hair.
2. Rinse With Cold Water
Cold water closes your hair’s cuticle, so it seals in shine!
3. Experiment with Products
When it comes to styling products, I'm always changing it up. Right now I'm loving Miss Jessie's Transitioners Magic. It curls my unruly ends, and it even acts as a leave-in conditioner so there's no need to use one, which is great because too much product can cause build up.
4. Dry Your Hair With a T-Shirt (For Real)
If towel-drying your hair makes it poufy, try drying it with a t-shirt instead. Once your hair is at your ideal dampness—meaning not totally dry—apply your products.
5. Hot Oils and Deep Conditioners Are Your Friends
It’s a 10 is one of my favorites. It’s enriched with Keratin to moisturize, smooth, detangle, protect color, prevent split ends, add shine, and protect for sun damage. (Talk about a multitasker!) You can also use things like coconut oil and avocado to make your own deep conditioner at home. I like to leave my treatments on overnight, for extra conditioning.
6. Find Your Sleep Style
I like to braid my hair or put it in a messy bun before bed. When you wake up your curls will be less tangled and more defined.

Never, ever, ever brush dry curls!
