Twenty-one years after the book was published, 18 years after the film adaptation was proposed, and however many years after you read it, Lois Lowry's beloved tale is hitting theaters today. The story is set in a dystopian world where emotional strife has been eliminated, and follows a twelve-year old named Jonas as he struggles with the burden of being given memories from the past. Though the verdict is still out on whether the movie captures that magical feeling we got reading it back in middle school, we're sold on the all-star cast featuring Katie Holmes, Meryl Streep and Taylor Swift (who went brunette for the role.) As for the new ending? We'll be on the edge of our seats.
