Trend Report: Springtime Braids

When I find myself sporting a messy bun morning, noon, and night, I know it’s time for me to shake things up. In search of some serious hairspiration, I turned to the inexhaustible blogosphere to jumpstart my springtime refresh. Grab your texturizing spray and try these three braids, depending on how much time (and patience) you have.

Taking it Easy

Only have five minutes to spare? Give this sleek, Valentino-inspired tutorial by blogger Joanna Goddard a whirl. Start by creating a perfectly even middle part with a comb and follow by gathering hair into a low ponytail and weaving into a simple side braid. Tame flyaways by spraying flexible hold hairspray like Toni & Guy's into your palms and smoothing over unruly hairs.

In the Swing of Things

All you need is a few extra minutes to create this best-of-both-worlds style by Hair Extraordinaire’s Christina Butcher. After applying Number 4’s Texture Styling Crème, braid two small sections on either side of your head. Twist the braids together in the center of your head, and secure in the back with pins. Let the rest of your hair flow loose and wavy with a few spritzes of Davines' sea salt spray.

Going Pro

Trick your friends into thinking you have a professional hairstylist on speed dial with this combo bun and braid by blogger Kate Bryan. For hold, fake second day hair with an all-over spritz of Oribe’s texturizing spray, then divide hair into three sections and secure with clips. Make a bun with the back section, braid the side sections towards each other and secure with pins.
