Our resident LA beauty junkie gets a glam makeunder from Halle Berry's go-to guy (the only man who could convince her to not wear eyeliner.)
When you slide into Troy Jensen's makeup chair, you know you're in the hands of a master. (A master who has painted the faces of everyone from Halle Berry to Eva Mendes to Rachel McAdams, that is.) This week, I was honored with the opportunity to model for Jensen's "Spring Sirens" shoot for one of Birchbox's favorite brands, Jouer. The event took place at LA's Milk Studios and left me with a lifetime's worth his invaluable beauty advice. Follow me on a photo journey of my day.
Upon entering the studio, I was immediately welcomed by Jouer's founder, the gorgeous Christine Zilber. She walked me through the spring makeup that would be featured in the shoot. Given that I'm already a Jouer superfan (the Matte Moisture Tint is pretty much my lifeline), I was giddy to play with products from the get-go.
Next stop: a rack of stunning couture gowns that I could wear during my shoot. Being the minimalist dresser that I am, I opted to stick with my silk black jumper. Those dresses sure were pretty, though!
Once I sat in Jensen's makeup chair, I was instantly impressed by his professionalism and his attentive crew of helpers. Like a master chef, he blended products together on the spot, whipping up a customized concoction that matched my olive skin tone perfectly.
Here's the "face chart" that his assistant put together during the session. Knowing that I'm a cat-eye and red lipstick kind of girl, Jensen urged me to step out of my comfort zone and go natural—he even opted to ditch both eyeliner and mascara! Despite feeling vulnerable, I knew he would make me look like a new and improved version of myself. (I’m guessing that's the effect he has on all his clients.)
Voila! Here I am with Jensen, who has seriously flawless skin and smells totally dreamy. (He told me that he only wears Dior.)
Right when we got to his set (yes, he doubles as an equally world-renowned photographer), Jensen jumped in front of the camera to show me how to pose. He knew exactly what he wanted from the shot, so I obliged.
Here's my attempt at mimicking Jensen's requested pose. We made a few tweaks to it, which actually looked great in the end. (Jensen's music of choice on set was Beyonce, naturally.)
The winning shot! Of all the photos I've taken in my life, this photo brings out a version of myself that I've never seen. It feels so fresh and natural, and brings out my strong European features. Jensen is a genius, hands down.
