Nerd alert! Taking a break from their studies at Harvard Business School, Hayley and Katia celebrate Halloween by dressing up as the crashing stock market. When they weren’t costume-partying, the ladies were scheming up a new business tentatively called In The Know Beauty. Thankfully, they settled on the name Birchbox.
Talk beta to me. Hayley and Katia have a website, inventory, and 200 paying customers—everything they need to put their discovery commerce business model to the test. One big takeaway from the beta days? Don’t glue the products down! Today, spill-prone perfume vials and nail polish bottles are packaged safely in a colorful “pillow pack.”
A Birchbox blast from the past: Take a gander at our first newsletter. We may have ditched the cheesy subject lines but Deborah Lippmann’s eye-catching polishes still rank high on our list of nail lacquer favorites.
