Schulz & Malley Brushless Shave Cream

Old-timers might swear by a four-step shave, but some men prioritize results over rituals. For those who shave without a brush, this cream offers the closest cut this side of a badger hair. Its botanical formula stands up stubble, while soothing skin to get the jump on postshave irritation. After all, while you may not have time for a barbershop shave, you deserve the same results.

Nice Enough

I'm a beardy guy, so not much use for this, but it smells nice

Way too greasy

This stuff is like Crisco. It doesn't dissolve well and it clogged up my razor. I've never had a shave cream do this but it completely rendered a perfectly good razor useless by lodging the blade full of hair and gook that would not come out. From reading the reviews I realize I am not the only one that had this problem. This stuff should work fine with old-style barber's razor (the kind you can kill yourself with if you make a mistake) but it is completely incompatible with modern razors.

Honestly? Terrible.
Sampled

There are two perspectives to look at this product.

First to those of us who still use the over-the-counter foam in a can shaving cream.
For you, this product is definitely worth trying. It is good enough to convince you just how bad foam in a can is.

To people who have been around the block before, this product is just bad. At best it is a stepping stone between foam in a can and full on badger brush ritual.

-Waaaay too thick and clingy. Yeah, it leaves you feeling smooth, but that is because the residue is still stuck to your face. (had to completely wash my face again after shaving to get it off. For good products, a quick rinse is sufficient.)

-Murder on razors & sinks. I used this once and had to spend a good 3 minutes cleaning all of the little clumps of the stuff out of my sink and from between my razor's blades.

All in all, this is a mediocre stepping stone. If you are going to go to this much effort for a nice shave, you should just bite the bullet and go for the brush and all. Trust me, it is worth it.

Just Not For Me
Sampled

I just shaved using this product and it is just not for me. I use a brush, DE razor, and either a shave cream or soap and this product just did not lather for me like my usual cream/soap. Also I need not like the aroma this cream gave off.

Addicted to My Brush

This stuff is good, I just can't get past the brushless part. I'm used to a thick lather, and you can't get it with this brand, unless you use a lot of it at once. That being said, if you just want a thin layer of shaving cream between your face and your razor, this stuff is great.

Badger Brush A Must
Sampled

I'm old school and prefer to use a 'soap' type product that requires the use of a brush.

terrible texture

This stuff comes out of the tub like rubber cement. I tried to use it, but never succeeded, because the entire tub came out in one large rubber-like ball that no one could use to shave. Avoid it.

Paste-like shave cream

Felt like smearing mud on my face. Razor glides well through, but it is really hard to clean off the razor. Way too thick.

Poor Sample Choice
Sampled

I was excited to try the sample when I opened the box but then very quickly became dismayed. All the information on BirchBox describes this as "brushless" with instructions to "massage onto damp face". Yet the instructions on the side of the jar recommend using the "Shultz & Malley Pre-Shave Oil" first which is not even available on BirchBox.

Since I use a DE razor, this product would mean applying the goop which does not spread very well or lather at all. Shave in one direction, reapply, shave in other direction, etc. Very quickly, I'd use up all the Shultz & Malley cream and not get a very good shave.

I've been using a C.O. Bigelow shave cream recently which is at a much better price point and in my opinion is leaps and bounds over this product.

Another BirchBox wasted sample.
