It’s hard not to get excited about a scent that speaks to us in our native tongue. Anne McClain, the perfumer behind Dude No. 1, was inspired by her own husband, as well as her Brooklyn neighborhood. While we’ve never met her number one dude, we can say that she perfectly captures the crisp, clean air you breathe while coasting through the tree-lined blocks of brownstones in Kings County. It’s a bonus that this beard oil will also tame and condition your whiskers.
I bought this Beard Oil for my Father during Christmas last year, unfortunately when Christmas actually rolled around he had shaved the majority of his beard off. He still uses it for his mustache and says that the smell is great and it does make the hair feel softer. A little goes a long way so the bottle will last a long time!4
I would say the dude no 1 beard oil is pretty great. The smell is really nice. Very much a wood scent, but also throws in some earth and a dab of spice. I like it because I don't really wear cologne. I usually rely on either beard oil or after shave if I wear scent. I would say if you're going to invest in a good beard oil that can probably also double as a light cologne then I would say get this one. The oil is a lot lighter than other beard oils i've tried in the past. And as Ive said smells better too. However obviously 65 bucks is sort of steep for beard oil, but I can honestly say dude no 1 smells great, and it works really well. Also it's natural and hand made. Also you should know it comes in a roller ball application not a dropper. I don't know if that makes a difference. It wasn't that difficult to apply.4
I got this product for my boyfriend last christmas. It smells very good, almost like a winter forest, but not too strong. It made his beard very shiny and healthy looking.5
I'll be honest, I don't think this product is really DOING very much. I've been using it for about 6 months and I do enjoy putting it on, but I don't think I'd buy it again.
That being said, I think the price and lack of "results" puts this product in a cologne category. As a cologne, the smell doesn't stick around for very long, and for the time it is around, its STRONG. it literally smells like liquid wood.
I WANT a product like this. If they could lower the price or make it less STRONGLY wood scented and make the scent last longer or make it have more of a beard softening effect i would buy it either as a cologne or as as beard softener.. but right now its just kind of a novelty...
I bought this for my boyfriend for Movember and his beard is so much softer and smells really good. His skin underneath seems a lot more conditioned and less flaky which is a big plus!2
