If you’re an old-fashioned gent, you like a quality shoe shine, crisp pocket squares, and a traditional straight-razor shave. But when a jam-packed schedule doesn’t allow for cutthroat whisker removal, we suggest this concentrated, creamy soap, which brings to mind classic barber shops (especially the Italian variety) with its tingly sensation and old-school packaging.
I personally prefer the sandalwood but they all work great. Scents are pretty nice as well but the smooth shave is the highlight.5
I got this in a monthly box and loved it so much I purchased it. I have had some of the best shaves of my life using this despite having sensitive skin.5
A great shaving cream, wonderful cooling feeling thanks to the menthol and eucalyptus, the full-size tube is a steal for the price. The smell is not medicinal, but rather smells like a nice barber shop.
For everyone saying that the sample size is too small, or that they did not have enough cream, this is an "old fashioned" shaving cream, and is designed to be used with a shaving brush!
When using a brush, squirt a small bit of the tube (about a dime- or almond-sized bit) into a bowl, or the palm of your hand. Using a slightly wet shaving brush, start swirling it around into a nice lather, adding a few drops of warm water every 10 or so seconds until you have a nice thick lather. Use the brush to paint it on your face, really massaging it in and getting it in and around the hair for a good 30 seconds or more.
This creates a slick, protective lather, enough to easily lasts for 2 or 3 passes with a razor, resulting in an incredibly close shave.
Loved discovering this product so I could switch up my shave routine. It feels good on my skin and helped me get a close, clean shave. Thanks, Birchbox!5
I was skeptical of this product since there was clearly no reference to a glacier or snow in the name but oh what a cool feeling!5
Minty and tingly and I don't like it for my sensitive skin.2
i normally use drugstore shaving products and was happy to get this in my birchbox i tried it once and liked it alot definatly worth changing up my normal routine5
I like this product but I am loyal to my gilette brand. I like the sample to try something new. if I find it in the store I might purchase3
The smell is not the best, but the nice fresh feeling after using is great.
Only downside is the toothpaste tube.
This is an awesome shave cream, and a steal for the price. You will definitely need a shaving brush (I use boar hair, but it will lather up fine with a badger, horse, or synthetic brush as well). A squirt of the cream (about an almond-size) in a bowl with a little bit of warm water (1/2tsp maybe? a couple drops really), and start going to town with the brush. If it doesn't start foaming up after 15 or so seconds, add a little more water. Repeat until you have a nice dense lather.
Then use the brush to massage it onto your face, for a full 30-60 seconds, this helps the hairs stand up and feels nice to boot. Since Proraso has menthol and eucalyptus, there will be an instant cooling sensation, which is quite nice (and a nice contrast to the warm lather). The smell is nice; not medicinal, but like an old fashioned barber shop. It lingers for maybe half an hour after the shave, but certainly wouldn't overpower any aftershave or cologne.
The cream is slick and protective, and whether you use a DE safety razor, or a cartridge (Mach 3, Gilette Fusion, etc...), you'll get a great shave.
