Cartier’s original Déclaration fragrance was an instant classic, featuring bold spice and unexpected undertones of cedar wood. Now the legendary luxury brand is back with a new version of the scent, Déclaration d’un Soir, which turns up the volume on the original strong-yet-sensual formula.
I'm selfish...I like to keep my Birchbox for myself. So it's always disappointing to open it to find a men's product. My husband doesn't wear cologne, so I asked my brother-in-law to sample it for me. He said that it "offended my olfactories as well as my skin." It made him itch and sneeze. All of us agreed that we didn't like the scent, either.1
I didnt like this smell at all! It smelled like pine trees or something. I didnt give it to my husband cuz i didnt like it.1
I really wanted to like this one. I generally love sandalwood on men, but the rose smell totally threw me. This was not a very masculine smelling fragrance, to me. I had two male friends try it on and none of us could handle it.1
Although I love Cartier, this perfume was not for me. I loved the smell, but when I applied it I came down with a headache within 30 minutes. This is due to my sensitivity to smell. I really wish I could have tolerated this scent as it is very elegant and I could see it being a signature scent for me. This is why I enjoy getting perfume samples so that I am able to try to them prior to purchasing.1
being from the south, i expect a man to smell like a man. i like strong, dark, woodsy, manly smells. this smell, which includes rose, is not what i think a man should smell like. i invited my male friends to try it out, and they all said they wouldn't wear it.1
As if I didn't smell AWESOME enough with the plethora of perfume samples I get from Birchbox almost every month since I've subscribed... here's a men's cologne sample as well! Actually, I re-gifted to my brother in his holiday gift and have yet to hear back about whether he cared for it or not. At least it didn't end up at the bottom of a landfill!
Honestly Birchbox, this is my only complaint... I hate the perfume samples. Otherwise, I'm a happy camper with my monthly box.
I gave this sample to my husband and we were not impressed. It smelled "flowery" as my husband put it. I agree.1
Just because it is expensive does not mean it is good. This gave me an instant headache.1
I hope giving out men's samples in the women's box isn't going to be a regular thing. It's just not a concept that works for me, sorry I spent money for that. My man doesn't wear scent, so tried it on myself. I found it had a strong almost alcohol scent at first and mellowed to an unpleasant, almost cedar scent. I think I was hoping for a more sandalwood finish, something I could wear so it would get used. Definitely something I would never purchase on purpose.1
Although it is not a personal favorite of mine, I was not completely put off by it. I would rank in this order:
Soir < Essence < Declaration.
