While the word patchouli might call to mind images of the hippie generation, this sophisticated fragrance couldn’t be further from that. Designed by Atelier Cologne’s fragrance expert Jérome Epinette, Mistral Patchouli uses grapefruit and black pepper notes to enhance a base of Indonesian patchouli. Equal parts zesty and earthy, the enticing result is more “leading man” than “flower child.”
I ordered this after falling in love w/ the Orange Sanguine. I am a patchouli lover and just knew inside this would be a winner - well it does smell nice - but it is a bit more masculine than I expected - and after further consultation discovered that it is a unisex scent - so it is going to react different for everyone -5
This is a nice fragrance, but the name is a tad misleading. Instead of patchouli dominant (as I was expecting), I get a healthy dose of anise (which smells a little like black liquorice). For me, this isn't a bad thing at all. It's great for the summer,4
I got this in my birchbox and was amazed at how good it smelt! I LOVE the musky, earthy smell on my skin. My new favorite scent! I will be asking for this as a gift or getting it for myself when my current perfume runs out.5
When I set up my Birchbox profile, I noted that I didn't care about fragrances, and didn't really want them. Regardless, I've gotten several fragrances in my boxes over the months, and I've liked all of them. This is one of them.
Perhaps Birchbox knows more about what I like than I do.
I was borderline offended when Birchbox sent me this sample -- I didn't recall checking the "hipster" box on my style preferences. Why this patchouli insult?
Then I tried it. Wonderful! Very light, to me smells like a musky lemon, but in a good way. Reminds me of sailing in the Greek Isles. Will buy/request for gift.
The other notes in this cologne put a twist on patchouli that is just heavenly. On my skin the star anise and pepper come to the forefront, making this a crisp, spicy patchouli scent instead of the typical presentation of earthy musk. Like all Atelier colognes, this wears close to the skin and is not overpowering. It lasts all day on me, but I apply it as I was shown to do at an Annick Goutal boutique in Paris - spray several times on neck and arms and allow some to get on your clothing. I was surprised when the sales lady put so much on me, but she said it was not too much and she was right.5
I have a few of the Atelier colognes and love them all. BUT, I have to say this is my all time favorite.... if you like a soft patchouli scent, give this a try. Its not a heavy scent, but just enough. LOVE IT!
I received this scent in my first or second birchbox in summer 2013. Seriously, I cherished my little sample tube, hoping it wouldn't run out. Alas it has only a few drops left. I will be purchasing either the small 30ml or the 100ml very soon so that I can wear this scent all of the time. Truly an amazing scent.5
a great scent. almost smells like original Dolce & Gabbana. I thought it was a little expensive for the size though.4
Man,I was really looking forward to getting this product,Then after ordering and recieving it. I was really bummed out about it. It does not even smell like Patchouli, and it is very, very weak, It lasts only a short while and its not a very pleasent aroma at all.NOT what I was expecting at all...Such a shame !!! And also the bottle was very small for the $. And flimsy packaging also !! Too bad,so sad!!!1
