While the word patchouli might call to mind images of the hippie generation, this sophisticated fragrance couldn’t be further from that. Designed by Atelier Cologne’s fragrance expert Jérome Epinette, Mistral Patchouli uses grapefruit and black pepper notes to enhance a base of Indonesian patchouli. Equal parts zesty and earthy, the enticing result is more “leading man” than “flower child.”
This fragrance reminded me of the fall - it is sort of dark and woodsy, and something you would wear while bundled up in your puffy vest and scarf walking out through the woods in late fall. Really nice!
My husband really liked the smell of this cologne but commented that it was "not for him", and I would have to agree. I love the smell but it is not universal, it would smell unusual on my husband but if I was next to a business man on a subway or passed a guy in my hallway coming back from the gym with this on I would go crazy. I've smelled worse, and the price is not anything unreasonable, especially for the luxury scent they are clearly going for. (For those complaining that $125 is too much money, the "your box" section directs to the larger bottle, I believe the 1.7oz bottle is $75, which is what I'm used to spending on cologne or perfume.)
The scent has some floral and citrus notes to it that make it a bit too feminine for a guy. It also does have that hint of pepper that they advertise, which makes it an awkward combination. I would expect more women to use this fragrance, yet it would also be a poor choice for a girl.
This was a very light scent, not overpowering at all. Too expensive to make it worth it though.
I did not particularly care for this product. It smells a little earthy.
I was really hoping to try out a new cologne because I can never pick out one for myself. Now, guys usually put on too much cologne and it REEKS. I think this just smells like it reeks even if you put a dab on. Patchouli is a tricky scent to work with. I'm willing to try out another scent by this brand.
When I read Patchouli, I was turned off and was already thinking of giving the sample to my father who enjoys this type of scent. On second inspection, the scent was pretty pleasant, with the Patchouli signature scent being subtle and the other notes complimenting it beautifully.
In the vile this just smells like straight up alcohol, but when you put in on your skin you get an immediate burst of lemon. If you're someone who loves patchouli this is probably not the scent for you. I didn't find that it smelled anything like patchouli actually. I do agree with some reviewers that it borders on smelling like cleaning products, but It is a very bright scent that will stay on your skin most of the day with just a few dabs. Bottom line: more of a lemon green tea scent than patchouli.
My boyfriend and I both hated the smell of the fragrance. YUCK!
I'm actually a fan of Patchouli. In the right doses, the citrus smell can be pleasing. Perhaps it's because my bottle broke before it arrived on my doorstep, but the smell was noxious and uninviting.
