All too often, style and substance are mutually exclusive—it’s rare that the stuff that gets the job done also looks good doing it. One exception to the rule: the contents of this sleek matte black bottle. The hydrating formula goes on smooth and helps protect your skin while allowing for a close, clean shave. This superlubricating cream will also wash off the blade a lot easier than heavier and denser shaving agents.
I am still trying to finish off the sample provided to me.
It does not work as effectively as others that I have used.
I am sure it has its place for others though.
I typically use Art of Shaving cream when I do shave and am really basing my review on the comparison between the two products. This cream really just didn't feel substantial and I felt that I was basically shaving with nothing on my face.
Maybe that's what the makers were trying to go for but I felt worried that I'd be doing harm to my skin shaving that way and I ended up just washing it off and putting on my regular cream to finish off.
Fine as a sample but not worth the purchase if you're looking for a thick shave cream. This feels more like a lotion and doesn't lather with a brush.2
It is very smooth and has a nice, "natural" scent, but doesn't seem to foam or build up a layer - either with brush or without. I want to like it a lot, but it's not my favorite.2
This shaving cream does the job, of alas, shaving unwanted hair off your face, but the smell / texture just didn't work that well for me. It has an odd metallic smell that I didn't enjoy. And it left my skin feeling fairly oily. Overall was not impressed enough to try it again. I have fairly oily skin, so for someone with dry skin, it might be ok.2
It is possible that I was spoiled by the superior shaving cream from my previous box (Proraso), but this shaving cream just is not up to par. Using it with a shave brush, is counterproductive and does not give you a nice lather. Without a shave brother, it lathers to a degree, but no better( and sometimes even less than) any drugstore brand of shaving cream. Though the lather was small, it still did not allow for an incredibly close shave either. Other creams are just far too superior to this one to give it another try. I appreciate testing it out though.
One plus is that the cream does leave your skin feeling nice once you're shaven and cleaned off. It gives me an almost moisturized feeling to my face; and I did enjoy that.
All in all though, it isn't really worth the money and I would rather stick to Proraso.
It smelled good and worked alright... but it didn't lather very well and I had to use way too much at a time to get a good shave.2
I received Proraso in my previous birchbox and prefer it greatly to this.2
I've been using shaving soap for the last three months and have a bunch of Birchbox shaving creams I've been meaning to try, so this was my first one. Wow! What a HORRIBLE experience! I started with a pinky size drop (as recommended) and applied... it barely coated one side of my face. Then used a quarter size, I got a light covering of my face. I tried more and it couldn't even lather, just a light film covering my face.
Then the shave. Well I could see my skin (which isn't good or bad), but the lubrication was horrible. I would have prefered shaving under running water than using this garbage.
The only reason this gets two stars versus one is that the sample size was nice and big and it smelt pretty good.
I wanted to give this a fair shot, really I did. Tried my sample at the sink with a very wet face, tried it with just a damp face, with more water mixed in my hand, and with not much water. Then I got a new shaving brush and tried this product with that. Each time I kept coming back to the same thing: I got a good and smooth shave, but I had to use a lot of the cream to get adequate coverage. Finally I tried it in the shower and ended up just rinsing the rest off and shaving at the sink.2
