Anyone with a smart phone can track down a Michelin-star restaurant in Paris or point you in the direction of the Forbidden City. But this slim, deeply researched line of guidebooks—don’t expect maps, illustrations, or any of the otherwise Google-able info you’d find stuffed in fatter versions—specializes in the type of locales known only to the natives. It’s the kind of unabashedly opinionated editorial advice that will send you happily flying solo. And it’s executed with so much brevity and class that the guides can fit comfortably into a pocket or your carry-on.
Its a nice sturdy map and while a nice product, not what I was expecting in my box. Since I got another durable goods item, this was slightly disappointing.3
It looks like it has places that aren't your everyday cliche tourist spots. I would definitely look into these guides the next time I travel!4
I think this could be a really helpful product. For me though it just doesn't seem like something I would spend my money on. For the right person though I think this could be a very helpful little guide.3
I wish they would have sent me New York City as I live 15 minutes away!!! I probably will not get much use out of this product. I still may purchase the New York one at some point...3
This is a great pocket size guide to a city. I hope that they develop more guides covering more US cities.4
My first thought was that BBMan ran out of ideas for this box, so they stuffed this in there for the heck of it. This would have been better left to add to the shop and allow people to choose the city guide they want, seeing as I have zero interest in visiting the city I received, so my guide will literally go to waste. Too bad.1
The map would be great if i lived in Chicago. this is not for me.1
I like this concept as it gives some different retrospectives on destinations than the standard Zagat, yelp, and other available options. It's a handy size, and I can see it's usefulness but I don't see myself using it any time soon. For future reference, if I was to get the this book for a location close to me (like Los Angeles) it would be great to compare how it rates/suggests local places vs my own experience.3
The sample seemed to have great recommendations and guide to the city.3
I have been a Birchbox customer for several months and I can honestly say that this is the first product that I have received that was totally pointless. Not only will I probably never use it (it was for LA and I live in DC), but in the digital age, I can access all of this information at the swipe of my phone. In addition, giving me a regionally-specific product that I may or may not use for years to come kind of defeats the purpose and element of surprise that Birchbox offers.1
