Ernest Hemingway, exemplar of all things craggy and masculine, was the inspiration for this complex fragrance—but don’t expect notes of rum and tobacco. Featuring top notes of Italian bergamot, juniper, and black pepper, a heart of orange blossom, Florentine iris, and cinnamon, and a base of vetiver, vanilla, and yellow amber, this is a cultured cologne for a cultured man. Papa would approve.
This is a great cologne. Has really nice smell without being too flowery or strong. It works great when you work in an office.5
This is easily my new favorite cologne. Really interesting, original fragrance. Has really nice notes without being too flowery or strong.5
This cologne is perfect for the individual that does not want to overwhelm everyone in the room. It is a light scent just what I want.5
I love cologne...and unfortunately not cheap cologne. This may be my new splurge cologne instead of Tom Ford for $400 a bottle.5
This was one of the first samples I received and I wish I would have used it far more sparingly than I had. It's my personal favorite from Histoires de Parfums. I know the full size will definitely be on my birthday wishlist. Every man needs a a few signature fragrances, but I'd be more than pleased to where this everday.5
I don't typically wear cologne but fell in love with 1899. It has a very unique smell and a break from your typical colognes.
It felt like a very natural and not overly powerful on the nose.
My girlfriend was bummed when my sample ran out!
My son received a sample of this item in his birchbox and he told me about it. I bought him the full-sized product as a birthday gift and he's very happy with it.5
BB sent me this product twice by mistake and i'm glad they did. I didn't appreciate it the first time. This time around, the wife really took a liking to the scent. I think I'll be picking this up in the future.5
I really hate getting cologne samples in my Birchbox -- mostly because I can easily get these small sample sprayers myself. As for the scent, though: good, very sweet. This is the main reason I gave it four stars. However, I did end up giving the sample to my fiance because it smells very much like warm vanilla sugar, which she likes and which I would never wear.4
I have tried other samples from this brand but this one is by far the best. Hints of vanilla and oak. Doesnt fade quickly. Got compliments the first time I wore it. Def buying the full size.5
