Ernest Hemingway, exemplar of all things craggy and masculine, was the inspiration for this complex fragrance—but don’t expect notes of rum and tobacco. Featuring top notes of Italian bergamot, juniper, and black pepper, a heart of orange blossom, Florentine iris, and cinnamon, and a base of vetiver, vanilla, and yellow amber, this is a cultured cologne for a cultured man. Papa would approve.
This cologne had a strange bitter undertone. I tend to prefer a more earthy/musky scent and loved the English Laundry Oxford Bleu that came in the March box. If you liked the Oxford Bleu, I don't think you will like this one.2
I always had problems finding a fragrance that I remotely like, I usually have high hopes for most I try and never had any luck. The first time I tried this fragrance I absolutely fell in love with it. I have gotten so many compliments on it, from friends to strangers.
This will be my first fragrance that I will own and most likely use daily.
This stuff is not overwhelming or too strong... it is nice and subtle. It lasts quite a long time, so you get a pleasant whiff of it every now and then throughout the day. I would say it has a nice, distinguished scent to it.5
The scent was nice in the bottle, however it did not smell good on me. This happens and it is nothing that you can get past. However, on my partner the more subtle notes really hit home, and it smelled great. May consider this for future gift opportunities.3
the inital smell is nice but i noticed that it was completely gone a few hours after wearing the product3
Smells nice, although I wouldn't buy the full size because its very expensive4
Love the scent of 1899, it has a masculine rustic scent. Great for any occasion, I can definitely see myself wear it for a night out as well as use it to impress others. I will be recommending this to all my guy friends as a MUST HAVE5
I buy my colognes based on seasons. This one in particular doesn't feel like a fall/winter scent and it's too strong for a spring/summer scent.3
I'm a fan and I can be a bit picky with perfumes/colognes.5
I constantly switch up my fragrances so I am always on the lookout for new types of scents, but it is safe to say I will never buy this product based on price alone. $125 for a 60ml amount is unheard of! I can go buy a fragrance I enjoy with 2-4 times the amount for close to $50 less! I had no problem with the fragrance, it actually smells very nice and unique to what I usually buy for myself, but the price tag is the only thing that turned me off to the product! Sadly, the small sample I received in my monthly Birchbox will only be used for weddings or special occasions and once it is gone, I will not re-purchase unless the price greatly reduces.3
