Ernest Hemingway, exemplar of all things craggy and masculine, was the inspiration for this complex fragrance—but don’t expect notes of rum and tobacco. Featuring top notes of Italian bergamot, juniper, and black pepper, a heart of orange blossom, Florentine iris, and cinnamon, and a base of vetiver, vanilla, and yellow amber, this is a cultured cologne for a cultured man. Papa would approve.
I don't wear cologne everyday, and am not really a fragrance aficionado - but I know what I like when I smell it, and this 1899 scent was a total olfactory winner, everything a masculine fragrance should entail. Enduring but not over powering. Subtle yet complex with all the different layers/notes. I am definitely going to splurge on a bottle of this stuff soon.5
A very masculine smell that lasts all day without being too overpowering. Definitely worth giving this a shot.5
I love this sample. It's not too musky. It strikes a good balance between musky and a light fragrance. No one wants to smell like a Rico Suave.5
Great scent of sweetness with a unique mixture and a bite of the pepper. Good for all situations.5
I love this fragrance. I was surprised at how good it smelled. My wife loves it too!5
Out of all my samples, this one by far struck me once I tried it on. This fragrance has a perfect balance as it is light, masculine, but punches a nice kick. It also have a distinctive spice to it, but not overly done. The price point is a tad high, but worth the price.5
I was skeptical of trying a somewhat unknown fragrance but my goodness, this was simply outstanding. I have a lot of aftershaves and this by far topped the stock. It's elegant, understated and kinda citrus/floral. I great spring/summer aftershave.5
It smelled good from the initial opening of the sample. I was excited about the different scents this cologne contained. I was saddened when I sprayed it though. It doesn't "stink" by any stretch, but it is certainly not the scent for me. I thought I would like the classic aroma, but instead I feel like it is a scent my dad might wear. Overall, it is not bad, but ultimately not for me.2
My girlfriend usually dictates which colognes I wear, which I'm totally fine with. I would insists on wearing this one, though, even if she didn't like it that much. Luckily, she was just as impressed with this as I was. This will definitely be the next fragrance that I buy.5
I really enjoyed the smell of this scent. Looking for it in the future.5
