A shower isn't the only solution for flat or greasy hair. Hanz de Fuko's medium-hold product is one part styling wax, one part dry shampoo, using diatomaceous earth (a soft, pumice-like rock) to suck up excess oil while adding both volume and texture.
This should be called Cement not Quicksand. Once it is in your hair you cannot even run a comb through it. It's ridiculous. I like a strong hold but you can't even work with it. Not buying or using again.2
This product hold my fine but thick hair great, however I didn't like the feel of dirty hair all day.3
The product is great for those looking for a matte finish but it was too matte for my taste. The texture is super gritty. I feel like HDF has better products, namely the claymation that will give you the same look without the feeling of grittiness in your hair.2
Great as a dry shampoo for second day hair that needs a pick me up and to look refreshed. I personally love the gritty beachy feel of my hair with this in it. My barber swears by this stuff and now I see why!5
This product is hard to get into the hair and hard to get out. The smell is great and the type of dry hold it provides works well with shorter hair, but it isn't something your hair will drink up.4
I bought this for my bf, his hair is short and thinning, this product helped him style it and keep the style and helps it to look thicker. I love that it's not sticky in his hair4
Works perfect for my sons hair. Keeps hair up in front and not greasy. Not sticky and keeps hair in place all day. Will continue to buy.5
I have extremely fine hair which gets really greasy and shiny as the day progresses, so I wanted something to mitigate that problem. This claims to matify, as well as add volume and texture, which is exactly what I wanted. Also, I was so pleased with Hanz de Fuko's Sponge Wax, so I decided to give this a try.
It works great, but the only problem is I can't get it to stop working. It's nearly impossible to wash this stuff out. I tried many different shampoos, including the Hanz de Fuko shampoo, but nothing works. Even after a few days of having NOT used the Quicksand, I can still feel the dry, "pumicey" texture in my hair. Conditioning after shampooing helps to bring some relief to the overwhelming amount of texture that this product creates, but not enough. After a couple weeks of continued use, my scalp started itching like crazy and the dandruff started. I guess that's why they call it Quicksand...because it sucks every bit of moisture out of your hair and scalp!
Depending on your hair type, YMMV, but I've had nothing but mostly annoying or even damaging effects to my hair and scalp from using this. I will be going back to the Sponge Wax which I think provides the same amount of hold and matte finish, only with less dryness.
I bought this for my husband who has fine/thin dirty blonde hair. He looks for a messy, non-greasy formula in his hair products. I thought this would be great for him considering it claims to have a matte finish, however it did the opposite for him. It provided zero volume and made his hair look greasy upon application. I decided to keep it for myself in order to tame flyaways, even though a rarely use it. Hopefully it works better for someone else with thicker hair.3
A lot of people seem to like quicksand but definitely not for me at all. Did not like the sandy/gritty texture and it dried my hair out horribly. Had to return it.2
