Sometimes the key to a quality clean is found in most unlikely ingredients. This ebony bar of soap comes infused with bamboo charcoal, which happens to work as a gentle, natural cleanser, purging skin of impurities and toxins. It lathers up a smoky gray, but don’t worry: You’ll rinse off clean and crisp as a fresh, green shoot.
Not blown away. It's a good charcoal soap, but I wouldn't repurchase because I've found better charcoal based soaps at the drugstore for half the price.3
I was hoping to replace a quite expensive bar soap with this activated charcoal soap, but so far, not so good.
I've only been using this soap for a week, but I've already started having breakouts! I have combination skin with an oily T-zone, and by mid-afternoon, I'm shiny- something that didn't happen with my previous cleanser.
The smell also is a deterrent. It's very mildly scented, but what there is to smell, smells like old urine. It's only during application that you can smell anything.
Pro's to this soap: Great lather, great price and size, skin does feel clean after washing.
Con's: not effective (for me), smell
I heard many things about charcol's clarifying effect in beauty products & I will say this soap/brand leaves my skin squeaky clean. I just wish it was a larger bar of soap...in almost 1 week it's half the size although it lathers really well (I shower with it everyday) it also doesn't have much of a smell & was hoping for more bergamot. I think I might try the sea salt one too3
This soap didn't do anything crazy for my skin. It's been a harsh winter so it's hard to judge this cuz mostly every soap for me this time of year won't moisturize enough. Scent is undetectable and lather is too much work. Just OK overall.3
I purchased this based on the glowing reviews and was expecting something a little more. My first comment was that this was the smallest bar of soap I have received from Birchbox. Second was that the soap really didn't produce that much lather and the scent was less than noticeable. Not a bad product, I just won't be purchasing again.3
But, as with a lot of bar soaps, it didn't last that long! I never felt like I had that "bar soap" feel when I rinsed it off. if it lasted me a week or two longer, this would be 5 stars.3
I haven't used enough of the soap to be able to have a real opinion on it, however it does have a nice smell and makes my skin feel super soft .
I feel really clean - and it does seem that it is taking a way any impurities.
It's an ok bar for body. It's a good bar for face. The charcoal really does work nicely as a clarifier, and the bar itself it more moisturizing than your average bar soap. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the slick texture after washing. It takes some dedication to get it all off. Smells good, brightens and evens skin well, but not good for a quick shower.3
I'm not always a fan of bar soaps but this one is different. I think the clay in the soap caused the bar to stick to my skin like a magnet rather than get all super soapy. The scent is mild and unisex. My skin felt very clean afterwards. I'm definitely gonna use this as a go-to when heading to humid travel destinations.4
I have recently began to prefer using a charcoal soap for face cleansing, and this one is a pretty decent one. The size of the bar is also a big factor. I know it will last for a while.4
