For a fruity, floral perfume that’s not afraid to speak its mind, try the George Sand-inspired Histoires de Parfums 1804.

Histoires de Parfums

Birchbox Breakdown

Like the famous spy Mata Hari, this scent is more than what it seems. It smells of flowers and spice and everything nice, as you’d expect from a vintage fragrance. But there’s something dark and mysterious about this scent, which taps into the seductive powers of rose, musk, and sandalwood. Consider us intrigued!

How it Works

Top notes of orange, litchi, and bergamot belie a femme-fatale heart of rose, cinnamon, white musk, and sandalwood. Carnation, iris, vetiver, and vanilla also make cameos.

How to Use

Spritz onto your pulse points. (And a dab on your décolleté is never a bad idea.)

Alcohol Denat., Parfum (fragrance), Aqua (water), Benzyl Salicylate, Cinnamyl Alcohol, Limonene, Geraniol, Alpha-isomethylionone, Eugenol, Cinnamal, Linalool, Citronellol

Mata Hari's Secret Weapon - a Powder Bomb!

This was my first HDP scent, and a blind buy. From the description I thought it would be a safe choice, but WOW this was a total powder bomb! Great quality, depth, lasting power and sillage - but not what I was expecting at all. The only "spice" note I got was caraway, and there was hints of rose and iris - but all faint compared to the overwhelming powder accord. A beautiful, vintage-smelling fragrance, but not to my tastes at all.
