Opal is, traditionally, a birthstone for the month of October. We considered changing our birthday on Facebook to explain why we simply had to have this iridescent stunner—but then we figured the ring itself was more than reason enough. It’s neutral-yet-luminous stone in a classic teardrop cut gives this simple piece an enigmatic glamour.
I really liked the ring in the picture but when I got it I was a little disappointed. The ring looked really cheap. I know its just costume jewelry but if I had actually paid real money and not used my birch box points I would had been mad. The metal gold part looks like plastic.3
I was excited to receive this ring, but upon taking it out of the plastic bag (yes, plain 1" plastic bag - unimpressed), I felt like it was nothing more than a plain little junk ring you could get at any little girls' jewelry shop.
It's just --- underwhelming.
I still think that this is a lovely little ring -- I bought a size 6 to wear it as an accent ring on my pinky finger -- but I am disappointed in the quality of the item.
First, I wish that there had been photographs of the ring from more angles before purchasing, as I was somewhat surprised by the texture of the band itself. The ridges on band make it look a bit cheap and not as classy as it would be without them. Had I seen a better photograph, I might not have purchased the ring.
Second, the gold plating on this ring began to come off within two days of wearing it. I know that plating doesn't last forever, but I expected much better from Birchbox. The underside lost the plating first, fortunately, so I'll still get a bit more wear out of the ring before it starts to look obvious and tacky. Nonetheless, I am quite disappointed to have looked so forward to wearing this ring and to have it turn out to be such poor quality.
I am really happy with this ring. It is very delicate. If you know that you are getting some costume jewlery that will hold up well, this is the right thing for you.5
After i ordered this, I read the reviews and was prepared to say"meh" , but then I got it, and I think it's really pretty. Very cute. I wear it with a plain gold band that is 14K gold and it just livens it up.5
This ring is very beautiful. I was disappointed that my size choices were only 6 or 7. I liked it so much I bought it anyway and I use it as a delicate little pinky ring. I like it a lot!4
I would wear this ring every day. Simple but elegant and goes with almost everything. Would definitely buy more from this brand.5
Very cute ring to jazz up any outfit. Not sure its worth the price though. Would of been happier with it as a combo set.3
i'm born in october and have been looking for an opal ring forever! love the tear drop shape with gold band. it looks the exact same as the picture. it's light and very stackable. i've been getting a lot of compliments on it and i almost want to get another in case i lose this one!5
The photo on the website doesn't do justice to how lovely and delicate this ring is. The stone is bright, and absolutely beautiful next to the gold. I ordered a size 6 since I have small fingers, and 6 fits my middle or index finger. It seems a tad larger than the size 6's I've bought in the past, but that makes it work well for stacking. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because a piece of the textured band is slightly sharp, and catches on my hair A LOT. This is probably just a flaw in my specific ring though. I would highly recommend if you're looking for a simple, delicate, but noticeable ring.4
