With hues like glistening sand, glimmering water, and a shimmering sunset, all the best parts of summer (and, thankfully, none of the hair-wilting humidity) make an appearance in Ruffian's new polish collection, available exclusively through Birchbox. This set includes three beach-inspired shades: Blue Lagoon, a metallic blue; Endless Love, a metallic pink; and Sahara, a metallic nude. The high-quality polishes swipe on streak-free and opaque in a single coatso you can spend less time on your mani and more time outside.
First, let me just say how beautiful the samples of RUFFIAN Endless Love (pink) and Blue Lagoon (blue) are. The Sahara (tan) is pretty, but it's so close to my skin tone when it's dry that it makes my fingernail almost disappear oddly into the rest of my finger. It's a lovely shade, but I think I'd need to be more Summer-tanned so there's more of a contrast between my skin and the actual nail polish. It's not a great Winter shade for me. The pink and blue are gorgeous no matter what, though. They look great against pale skin, and they'll look jewel-toned against a darker or tanned skin tone.
The metallic shimmer is subtle; it looks mature, not childish. When I first took them out of the box, I commented that they looked nearly separated, but that may have been a result of my not shaking them enough. With a solid, extended mixing, I'm not seeing the same problem today.
The polish goes on thick, covers completely in one coat, and dries so quickly it's almost frightening. I was honestly shocked at how little I had to use. There were no streaks, no smears, the coverage was even, and there weren't any of those annoying clumps and ridges that you see so often in metallic or 'shiny' polish.
My only complaint is that the brush in the bottle of Sahara is bent at the tip. Where the Endless Love and Blue Lagoon brushes are a smooth and square, the Sahara brush looks more like a used broom. Lots of bent bristles and flare. If I had a way to replace it - say, a brush from another bottle of RUFFIAN, I'd go for it, but as it stands, I'm thinking I'll end up using manicure scissors to trim the wayward strands.
I got this collection in the mermaid box and it was totally the right color mix for the theme. The polish is great, chip-resistant (and I type all day), and the colors are nicely opaque. I expected my favorite to be the sea-blue, but I am quite taken with the neutral. I am very fair and many neutrals are too brown or have green undertones that don't suit my blue ones. This one is perfect. I love it.5
This little trio is among the best nail polish I've ever owned. The purpley pink color and the blue go on opaque in one coat... and are dry within a minute. I've been wearing my one-coat of the pink.purple for 5 days without a single chip! The flesh color is a little off putting, but actually looks fairly classy. When I wore it it lasted nearly 2 weeks.5
I got these polishes in my modern mermaid box. I had never tried Ruffian brand nail polish before, but I was instantly in love. The purply-pink one is my favorite. It's the perfect girly color, so shiny, and it dries so quickly! Normally I can't sit still long enough for my nails to dry, so these polishes are perfect! I can't get enough! I will definitely purchase more Ruffian products in the future!5
I love all the colors in this collection. It stayed on for a couple of days before starting to chip, which always makes me happy! These were one of the products that drew my attention to the mermaid box.4
I love these nail polishes! They are so colorful and go on really easy! Sometimes it chips kind of easily but I find it dry quicks so reapply is not an issue.4
Love the colors. Love this nail polish. It goes on nice with great coverage. I usually add a top coat but have no problem getting this last almost 2 weeks.
I received these in the special Mermaid box and love all three of them. They compliment eachother and also look great alone. I love that the nude has some shimmer, and the blue looks surprisingly chic for a nail color I would not normally have chosen for myself. The best part about this polish is that you only need ONE coat-- Wow!! Seriously. and it does NOT chip. It lasts a long time and this collection has a beautiful shimmer. I recommend it.5
These are super goopy. I was not expecting that. They were also tiny and chipped on my super quickly. I feel like I wasted my money. I wish I would have just gotten a sample of these instead.2
I got this set in the Modern Mermaid box. I really love the colors (I'm wearing Sahara right now!) and the polish dries super fast. However, they are so small!! They're only 5 mL each. Not sure I would but this on its own for $26.50, that seems pretty steep.3
