Let’s start with a disclaimer: most hair treatments are more or less conditioners masquerading under fancy names. Not so with Ojon’s creamy balm, which goes beyond moisturizing to actually repair many types of hair damage—from split ends to uncontrollable frizz. A unique pre-shampoo treatment, it transforms into a rich oil upon contact with the heat of your palms, and it’s designed to be applied directly to dry hair. After just one use, your hair will be stronger, shinier, and softer.
I love what this product does to my hair but the smell IS awful. When I read the reviews I thought how bad can it be? Well it's bad...cigar bar bad, 80's smoking section at a Friday's restaurant bad, or as my husband said the moment I laid down to bed while this was working it's magic in my hair..."why do you smell like a dive bar?" yikes. There was an orange scented version of this in the sample but the full size of it is not on Birchbox and that one wasn't as bad. Not awesome but bearable. That being said I will get the full size if I can find the orange one. It left my hair soft and shiny and once washed off the smell does not linger like other products.4
This treatment was good, but I did not like the smell. It had a lingering essence of cigarette smoke or tobacco which made me queesy, but it left my hair feeling soft and shiny.3
My hair has always been a little fly away, but as I am getting older the fly aways are ridiculous. Ojon has been amazing at calming these and giving my the smoother hair style I want without leaving my hair greasy. I put it on, go ride the exercise bike and then shower and wash my hair. I believe this will become a favorite of mine.5
My hair felt great after using this product! I love that I got two samples so I can treat my hair again in a few months.4
Had a terrible experience with this brand a couple years ago... left my hair greasy for, literally, a week.
I was hesitant to try this sample but I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised! I thought the application process was simple...doesn't take much dexterity to cut open a package, squeeze out the product and warm in your hands. The smell is very pleasing and the 20 minutes after application is a great time to do a little work or finish the laundry.
I shampooed out the product, really scrubbing at the roots to make sure it was completely gone. My only question was whether you are suppose to condition after rinsing? I did not and blow-dried by hair. The result was a full head of soft, manageable and smooth hair.
I will try this product again, most definitely.
My hair is always so dry and brittle because I am not naturally a blonde. The Ojon damage reverse Restorative Hair Treatment Plus helped after just one use! I can only imagine what a whole bottle would do.4
I wanted this to work, and it did... my hair was moisturized, but I couldn't stand the smell coming from my head as the product sat there and worked, and then I had to shampoo until the smell was gone, which negated the effects.3
The instructions on the box make this sound a lot easier than it actually is to apply this treatment to your hair- it starts as a solid, and you have to scoop it out and then melt it in your hands. The problem is that in order to evenly melt the product in your hands (otherwise it's like putting chunks of butter in your hair), you have to scoop tiny amounts at each time- unless you're willing to waste extra product. This is also super hard to apply evenly to your hair. I end up with small chunks and with only part of my hair covered in this mask. The claim on the description is right- most treatments are like a glorified conditioner. But those treatment creams are much easier and more efficient to use. For all the trouble it takes to apply this, I don't notice any difference in my hair.2
My thick coarse hair needs all the moisture it can get. Ojon is a welcome surprise from all of the thick cream based hair treatments I've used before. It has a nice scent which I appreciate too.5
I normally use a weekly masque but liked the oil too. I like that it turns into and oil so you have better control over how much you get. I also really liked that my hair wasn't too dripping oily while it was sitting, it was saturated but not overwhelming. I did feel like I had to was my hair twice before it was all out though. My hair was soft and shiny, but it's not very damaged to begin with so I don't know how restorative it ascaris lot is. Also a lot of reviews said the smells was awful, maybe it was just bc it was a sample but I didn't think it was too bad or overwhelming -- maybe not the absolute best, but nothin terrible enough that I wouldnt use it5
