You wouldn’t know it from the state of our makeup drawer, but we’re actually beauty minimalists. Our motto: Why use two products when you can get the same effect with one? This two-in-one lip and cheek stain gives us a natural, understated flush and helps us get out the door faster. The gel formula looks dark in the tube but delivers a sheer tint. The tinted gel leaves a lasting stain on lips and cheeks. Since it’s water-based, it has a longer setting time than most quick-dry stains, which means it won’t leave any unsightly streaks behind as long as you take care to blend well. Use a single coat for a subtle look or layer it on for a more visible (yet still discreet) hue.
The gel formula was too watery for me. I prefer a little bit more substantial lip gloss. The color was fine though.1
I was so excited when I opened my first Birchbox and found a lip and cheek stain. Being a big fan, I have used the likes of Tart, Benetint, and even some crazy Hello Kitty one I found in a 7 Eleven in Thailand. So you can imagine that I had high hopes for this Stainiac brand balm. Sadly, it felt sticky and didn't produce the just finished exercising flush I was seeking. I had to use alot just to get a little bit of color, and I am pretty pale if that says anything. This one will be a pass for me, but I still love Birchbox!1
I thought it was going to be like a lip stick but it was more as a lip gloss and I did not like the texture of the product. I absolutely hated it and do not recommend this product !1
I would have to layer this on MANY times before the color showed even a little. Not worth this. I wish it was a more opaque color. I wouldn't apply this on my cheeks either.1
I am all about stains as constant lipstick reapplication is a pain, so I had high hopes for this. I just didn't find that the pigmentation was great, no matter how many coats I put on, and what color I did see disappeared almost immediately. It also made my lips feel really gross, dry and rubbery at the same time.
Since all I see are pretty good reviews, I'm wondering if I got an off sample? But as is, I'd opt for a tinted chap stick or drug store stain/balm (like Revlon) over this.
I didn't love how sheer the color was and it was next to impossible to get off. I would prefer a traditional lipstick or stain.1
I was excited to try this product. But once I did I was very unhappy with it. I used it twice on my lips and then into the trash it went.1
What a bummer to get my second year's welcome box and 3 of the 5 items are repeat items. This was one of them. The product is ok, but I would never use it enough times to even finish the sample. Just not a practical product1
I've used other stains before and the pigment was much richer than this is. To get the intensity I wanted, I had to apply multiple coats and that just made my lips sticky. I made sure to not touch it for a while so it could really do the job staining, but it still ended up fading in middle of my lips. Not something I'll use in the future.1
The red dye in this product makes it come out as cheap and goopy. Won't be reordering. Didn't even atttempt to use it on my cheeks.1
