Old makeup sticks around—and not just on our faces. Our makeup brushes need cleansing, too, and we’re not talking just a rinse in the sink. This makeup brush cleaning kit strips out oils, skin cells, bacteria, dust, dirt—and all that makeup that your handy brushes have been applying so dutifully.
I purchased this kit in July when the cost was $19.00. It works very well and is user friendly, but I don't understand why the price doubled. Could it be an error?3
I thought this set would make it easier to clean my brushes, but I liked my hand washing method better. I think a brush cleaning glove would be a better option, in my opinion. The soap included in this set was difficult to rinse out of my brushes and left a residue. I do like the drying cup and brushguards though.3
This kit is a neat idea. It includes a cup for washing brushes, for drying (and storing) brushes, an OK brush cleanser, and some reusable brush guards.
The novelty of this kit is the washing cup. Inside the cup, the bottom is covered in small nubs. The idea being that as you swish your brush over and through the nubs, the bristles receive more cleanser and soap, thus a *cleaner* brush.
The cleanser does an average job of removing makeup and skin gunk from the brushes. A bit of cleanser can be poured into the blue cup with a splash of water and swirling the brush around the bottom of the cup will begin the cleaning process. Its is IMHO that rinsing with tap water is the only reasonable way to ensure the brush is clean of makeup goo as well as clean of cleanser.
If you are diligent about cosmetic brush care already, this may not be a great kit to quickly clean your brushes. If you *forget* to clean the brushes regularly and they are pretty gross, this kit might be a jumping off point.
Here is why. A brush used for mineral powder foundation can be considerably dirtier than it appears. With a few stirs and swishes, the water quickly will become dirty. Dump it out - add more cleanser (?) - swish and repeat...
Maybe there is still *enough* cleanser on the brush so you can just add more water to the cup. For my brushes, which can become neglected, I would have to empty and refill three or more times and still feel the need to rinse with plain water.
Another irksome quality --- the height of the cup. It is great when using it as a drying/storage cup but I do not like to completely submerge the bristle head into the water for prolonged washing. I did not find it useful for kabuki brushes (too tall) or for large, full powder brushes (to small inside cup). I think I will return to my previous method which is the same idea but works better for me.
I purchased a *rubber-y* soap dish that has large nubs/bumps on the bottom to left a bar of soap out of the water. A bit of brush cleanser in my palm, swirl bristles in palm, a bit of water in soap dish and swipe the bristles back and forth. If it needs additionally rinsing, I can hold the soap dish in one hand, the brush in the other and use running tap water to quickly finish the job.
The brush guards are cool. They are especially nice for rushes that dry weird no matter how hard you try and reshape them. I will purchase more of the brush guards separately.
Loved the concept but could of done better job with baby shampoo. The cup was a nice touch for cleaning but not necessary. Used a good amount of soap since the brush solution it did not create any suds. Still on the fence for this product.3
I do enjoy the guards to help hold the shape. The cleanser didn't really work any better than traditional soap and water.3
My favorite part about this set is the cup. Makes it easier to wash my larger brushes. Difficult to wash my smaller travel brushes without just using fingertips. The Wash that came with it was just standard. For the price though the cup was worth having.3
I really like this kit- it's easy to use and I like the cups. It's really nothing that I couldn't put together myself with a cup, a towel and some baby shampoo though... My favorite part is the plastic pieces that slide over the brush so they can dry and be stored brush side down. The only negative was there the kid does not come with enough brushes.
Bottom line: great for someone too lazy to get the tools needed to clean brushes separately. the cup is good to store brushes in between cleanings too. Wish it came with more brush covers.
This brush cleaning kit is nice. Teaching my niece how to clean her makeup brushes as she learns how to apply her eye makeup.3
Not an absolute necessity but I love the blue cup, it really is helpfully to scrub all the gunk out of the brushes!3
I like the cleaner, etc., but mostly I bought it for the accessories and the the brush-drying "nets" weren't included with my kit. The cleaner was effective.3
