MCMC founder Anne McClain was inspired by a free-spirited friend to create this ethereal perfume. Part of The Stories Collections—a group of scents inspired by McClain’s personal experiences—it’s the embodiment of feminine flair. The top note of vanilla quickly translates to a honeysuckle when it touches skin. The lasting note is peach, and its lightweight essence personifies the story of Phoenix.
Like some of the other reviewers, I can't pinpoint what I didn't like about this perfume. There's something about the fragrance combination that just doesn't work for me.2
I'm not much of a perfume gal and at first I thought this was too sweet for my tastes, but after a little while it mellowed into a fantastically addictive scent. I literally couldn't stop smelling my wrist. A bit too much comes out of the sample at once—large drops instead of a mist—so you have to be careful when applying. I'm thinking maybe some of those who reviewed this negatively had this problem? It can be a bit strong in larger quantities—but so can most perfumes. I've never been particularly fond of any of the perfume samples I've received in my 1+ year with Birchbox, but Phoenix is fantastic. Most perfumes smell pretty generic to me, but this unique and intriguing.5
I really love this perfume. I personally didn't feel like it smelled like a grandma perfume in the least. It's light, it's like that smell that is in almost all popular perfumes right now with out the overly sweet candy, powerful smell.
I put it on with out my husband knowing I made a change and when he hugged me his nose went right to my neck sniffing away. "You smell really good". He had no idea I had put on something knew, it wasn't over powering he just thought it was my normal stuff toned down. I told him it was a totally different one and he wanted to know what it was.
My mother smelled it and since I'm into the more younger smells like Viva La Juicy and Fire and Ice, she said that this was a "ME" perfume. It goes along with the kinds of things I would like but she too felt it was lighter.
I really like this stuff. The cost is the only thing keeping me away from buying a whole one.
I understand that this is a unique blend of oils, but I really enjoyed it! All I can say is, I thought it was a hip yet pretty fragrance. :-)5
I put this on after receiving my Birchbox and hated it. I sat down to eat dinner and had to get up to wash my arm off because the smell was making me nauseous. It is truly awful.1
Not in love with this scent. I would never purchase it and am not even sure I'll ever finish the sample. It's just not for me3
I really liked the scent. It's a nice peachy vanilla scent, which I don't usually go for, but it's subtle, with enough floral undertones that it's not overwhelming.4
The smell of this product reminded me of an old hair product/oil that my mom used to put in my hair when I was a child.
I didn't like the smell on me and will not purchase it for myself or as a gift.
I don't know why this product is rated so low or why everyone is freaking out. I really like the dusky peachy vanilla fragrance. It's adult and intriguing. Maybe it's the honeysuckle that's throwing everyone off? I certainly don't think it stinks but perfumes react differently on different people. My husband (who is not a fan of anything musky and neither am I) actually came over to tell me I smell good. It wore off about 4-6 hours later but I think that's a perfectly reasonable time frame for perfumes.4
likes the smell, i might purchase in the future. a nice smell for everyday use4
