Here’s a quick lesson in skincare history: In West Africa, traditional black soap is made by mixing the ash and barks of local plants with healing oils. Rich in vitamins A and E, it’s become prized by women around the world for its abilities to battle blemishes and the signs of skin aging. This rich cleansing and exfoliating bar from Shea Terra Organics is the real deal. Made with USDA-certified organic ingredients, it retains all the medicinal benefits of the original African soap.
This may be a soap made in the style of African Black Soap, and it might be a really nice soap. But it's NOT genuine African Black Soap. I've been handling imported African Black Soap for friends who need it for years and I've never seen it come in actually black-colored. Many users in reviews mention that it's gritty or scrubby, another detail that's not usual. The scent of shea butter is unusual for many US users but it's an easily acquired taste for most people, so that part is likely in the style of the soap being copied here. If you like the soap itself, wonderful! But don't think it's the "real deal" as claimed, because it's not.1
I like that this soap can be used as a mask on my body and face. It's nice to have an all-in-one cleaner that is not harsh or drying on my skin.4
But good nonetheless. I would get it again with my points but I doubt I spend money on it. It's kinda pricey.3
I love this soap. When I say that it changed my life, it really changed my life. I was struggling with adult on-set acne on my lower jawline that was constantly inflamed and painful. I purchased this with some Birchbox points, and I am floored at how amazing this works. I have had maybe one small breakout since using this daily, and that was due to hormone fluctuations! Keeps my skin so soft and smooth, I really cannot say enough about this and plan on buying it for Christmas for all of my family members.5
This soap is the best! I use it all over in the shower and I also use it to shave. My face broke out a bit after using it for two weeks, but I have not had a pimple since:) I will definitely be buying this regularly.5
Product description is what encouraged me to purchase this product. It does have a good exfoliating ingredients,
I just did not like the black marks it left on my tub and shower and couldn't get passed the idea of washing with a soap that goes on a rinses of black, kind of felt like washing with mud bar soap.
I've struggled with acne ever since I started puberty, and I've had a hard time finding a soap that makes me feel good, keeps my skin clean, and doesn't dry my skin out too much. This is going to become a new staple in my house. This soap leaves my skin feeling clean and smooth and soft. It doesn't leave my skin feeling tight and dry. My acne was noticeably better after only a week of using this, and has steadily continued to improve over the months since I started. I love this soap. It does have a smell that's not entirely pleasant, but it isn't strong and as soon as the soap is rinsed off of me, so is the scent. So I really don't mind. Small price to pay for the pleasure of having clear skin.5
This is the best Black African soap I've used. Warning though...this is exfoliating and has a serious "grit" factor. I use it on my legs, which tend to be dry and scaley...it's great for that.5
My husband and I use this soap to wash our faces daily. If you are a first time user, don't be alarmed by the muddy appearance it can take once wet. Completely normal! Once you rinse, your skin will feel brand new!!!5
I really like this soap. It has really diminished my adult breakouts. It also has helped with the "age spots", fine lines and wrinkles making them not quite as noticeable. All without drying out my skin.5
