Here’s a quick lesson in skincare history: In West Africa, traditional black soap is made by mixing the ash and barks of local plants with healing oils. Rich in vitamins A and E, it’s become prized by women around the world for its abilities to battle blemishes and the signs of skin aging. This rich cleansing and exfoliating bar from Shea Terra Organics is the real deal. Made with USDA-certified organic ingredients, it retains all the medicinal benefits of the original African soap.
This may be a soap made in the style of African Black Soap, and it might be a really nice soap. But it's NOT genuine African Black Soap. I've been handling imported African Black Soap for friends who need it for years and I've never seen it come in actually black-colored. Many users in reviews mention that it's gritty or scrubby, another detail that's not usual. The scent of shea butter is unusual for many US users but it's an easily acquired taste for most people, so that part is likely in the style of the soap being copied here. If you like the soap itself, wonderful! But don't think it's the "real deal" as claimed, because it's not.1
I purchased the full size and was disappointed. The scent of this soap was better than other black soaps I have tried so I was very excited, however, this soap dried out my skin A LOT. On top of it drying out my skin, it broke me out. I was not at all happy with this soap. Maybe someone else will have better luck.1
I've been using this product for a few weeks and it's not terrible. When washing with it my skin feels soft, but after rinsing my skin feels super dry. I moisturize with cocoa butter to help.
I do, however, think it helps with my skin's appearance even though it is super drying. I will keep using it to really determine if it's worth the price.
My son has acne prone skin and I purchased this soap to see if it would help. He was skeptical as he does not like to use products to treat his skin. He is a believer now and is recommending it to all his friends and family. Oh and his skin is clear and smooth!5
Nice soap that does not dissolve quickly in the shower. IT does tend to leave black marks on towels and tub is not rinsed immediately. Overall feels great on my skin!4
I absolutely love this soap. At first I was a little skeptical about buying it since it was a soap bar and I thought it would dry out my face especially cause I have sensitive skin but it didn't and I'm more than happy I did. It left my face feeling tight but soft and it cleared up most if not all of my break outs. I had purchased murad to help with my break outs but stopped using after getting this soap and seeing better results from it.5
I was looking for a more natural facial cleanser since my store bought brands didn't seem to be doing to trick lately. After reading all the positive reviews I figured I'd give if a try for its measly $8. HOLY MOLEY I'm never going back to other cleansers! It makes my face feel SO soft and clean. It feels like it exfoliates without the harshness of actual exfoliating beads like other cleansers. My face also feels tighter after, and not in the it feels dry sort of way. I actually haven't even had to use facial lotion since starting to use this. LOVE it, will continue to purchase.5
This is the best soap. My husband loves it. really helps to clear up skin, definitely need a moisturizer afterwards but worth it.5
Got this as a stocking stuffer for my cousin for Christmas. She really loved it, and I have only heard good things since. I personally like the CO Bigelow soaps more, but this went over well with my very hard to please, 21 year old cousin!4
I just started using the soap and it is working wonders. My skin feels soft and nourished. The smell isn't that great but for my skin anything. The nice part is the smell doesn't linger.4
