Here’s a quick lesson in skincare history: In West Africa, traditional black soap is made by mixing the ash and barks of local plants with healing oils. Rich in vitamins A and E, it’s become prized by women around the world for its abilities to battle blemishes and the signs of skin aging. This rich cleansing and exfoliating bar from Shea Terra Organics is the real deal. Made with USDA-certified organic ingredients, it retains all the medicinal benefits of the original African soap.
I tried after reading good reviews. It just smells like soap. What I really hated about it was how rough it was! I thought I was going to be cutting my skin open every time I ran the soap along my skin. And after all that, I didn't see any special benefit in my skin.2
I like the rose hip liquid soap and thought this would be simpler but I didn't care for it. It was much harsher on my skin then the liquid and the bar became very very soft in the shower. I did use my hands to create a foam and then applied to my face but it was much more drying. I will not repurchase this.2
I honestly think this is causing me to have breakouts! I originally got this soap for my husband to help with his acne. I used it too to help make a routine for him. My skin has never had any problems with acne. I get occasional hormonal pimple here and there and tend to have dryer skin. I started using this soap two weeks ago and have been breaking out! I don't know why I'm the odd duck in using this soap but it's disappointing.2
I bought this because I had read a few articles about black soap being good for acne prone skin. I have a light complexion. My skin feels wonderfully clean after washing with it but after a week or so I noticed that my pores on checks, forehead and nose seemed much darker. I stopped using it and went back to my normal routine and my pores went back to normal as well. It may help complexion but I would recommend maybe alternating it with an exfoliate scrub. I'm not sure if I will buy again.2
I purchased this based on the awesome reviews and the hope that it would clear up my acne.
After using it for a week and a half, I've gone back to my face wash that I was using before. At first, I saw a difference and it seemed like it was adjusting to my skin. After a few days, it didn't do anything for me. My skin hasn't been dry once this winter, and this soap made me flaky in multiple areas, with moisturizer. It made me breakout more in the nose area, and it didn't get rid of already existing acne. Overall, I had much too high expectations. I have gone back to my other face wash that works, and I don't plan on using this again any time soon.
I had such high hopes for this soap but it just didn't work as well as a lot of the reviews claimed that it would.
To be completely fair, I did not use this soap every day as it was very drying. I used it every other day and noticed no difference in blemish or oil control. It did, however, make my skin softer but I had to use a very rich moisturizer every day.
I found this bar incredibly difficult to use in the bath. It's rough texture makes it unusable without a cloth, but stains the cloth without forgiveness. Not sure I'll be able to get the black tint out, even with bleach. It's also a mess, covers the side of the tub with a black film, and does provide the layer of coating needed to let it act as a mask before rinsing.2
Was hoping that I (and my husband) would love this product, I love products that we can both use.
This soap is just so messy - and everything in our bathroom is bright white! Also - my skin gets really blotchy using this soap, it eventually fades, but if I'm heading right out the door I can't trust it.
This bar of soap barely lasted me 10 showers. It dried my skin out and did nothing to help clear up my skin. It did cause my white shower tile grout to look dingy though since it rinses off like black mud. Will not be repurchasing.2
I've only been using it for about 3 days now, and as I can see it working on my acne quite well, it does a better job of drying my skin out completely. I have very sensitive skin, and this burns and makes the skin on my face dry and rough. Wouldn't reccommend as an acne remedy for those with sensitive skin.3
