Here’s a quick lesson in skincare history: In West Africa, traditional black soap is made by mixing the ash and barks of local plants with healing oils. Rich in vitamins A and E, it’s become prized by women around the world for its abilities to battle blemishes and the signs of skin aging. This rich cleansing and exfoliating bar from Shea Terra Organics is the real deal. Made with USDA-certified organic ingredients, it retains all the medicinal benefits of the original African soap.
The soap itself was alright. It didn't smell much like anything, but it was great for exfoliating. I wouldn't say that it "battled blemishes".3
I like using this product as a daily mask. It leaves skin soft and smooth, and it helps prevent breakouts and blemishes. I cut my bar into about 6 chunks, which I would recommend doing!3
I like this product, but it may be too harsh for my skin. It is also very messy.3
I purchased this bar of soap (cashed in some points anyway.) based on the reviews and as I was in search of a wash for my super sensitive , flaky, flare up skin. I have used this soap two times so far..... I cut small pieces off the bar as I have used it. So far I love the way it feels on my skin. Doesn't leave it overly oily or dry. Leaves it more squeaky clean. A major plus is it did not burn/ irritate my skin like a lot of soaps... However , I don't think I have used it long enough to see any results yet. And one thing I will say that I don't particularly care about, is the smell..... Eek. I know it's made from organic , and ash ect. And it may very well be the "ash" part of the soap, but to me the smell reminds me of an ash tray/cigarettes. Not my favorite smell at all. So, that smell along with the funky brown color was a bit to experience. But we will see how the results/outcome is.
I love this soap but it makes a big mess, so I would not recommend using it at the sink. The smell can be a little off putting if you have never used African black soap, it's the scent of the the ash in the soap. This soap is great for exfoliating, just know that it doesn't last long it will disappear in the soap dish.3
This soap is a little bit strange and not at all what I expected but I kinda liked it. I found it to be way to drying to use as a face soap so I only used it as a body wash. The exfoliation is nice but sometimes they feel sharp on your skin and are almost painful so I find myself scrubbing the bar with a loofa and applying that way. The smell is very earthy, and the soap washes off black.
All that said, my skin looks really great since I started using it. The unsightly bumps on my arms are reduced and my skin doesn't feel too dry either. I am really mixed on this one since the product isn't that pleasant to use but I can't argue with the results.
I was very excited to try this product and was pleased with it. At first I didn't know how I felt about the squeaky clean feeling it gave me but along with the new moisturizer I got it's a great balance. It is rough so follow the instructions and DO NOT put it directly on your face.3
I'd read a lot of raves about African soap, so naturally I HAD to try it. Unfortunately, it left my skin a bit oily and I had a minor break-out. I still gave it 3 stars because I can use it to exfoliate my legs, so not a total loss.3
I use another brand of african black soap for body wash and I love that. So far I am not to crazy about this face wash. It leaves my face feeling to squeaky and almost as if there is a film left behind. I think it may be better in the non summer months. I will continue to use it, though I don't think I would buy it again.3
This soap really works well on combo, sensitive skin in the Summer. Use this along with a rotating brush and you will see clearer pores. Also, it tones without drying.3
