Here’s a quick lesson in skincare history: In West Africa, traditional black soap is made by mixing the ash and barks of local plants with healing oils. Rich in vitamins A and E, it’s become prized by women around the world for its abilities to battle blemishes and the signs of skin aging. This rich cleansing and exfoliating bar from Shea Terra Organics is the real deal. Made with USDA-certified organic ingredients, it retains all the medicinal benefits of the original African soap.
I got this product because I was intrigued by all the reviews on how good it was for the skin, etc. I agree the smell is not the best, but it reminds me of a campfire, etc. So it's at least tolerable, and for me the smells gone once I toweled off. The downside for me is how rough the soup is. I like exfoliates, but its hard to even lather up with your hands because of the texture. I'm still going to try it out and see how it goes. So far I'm not unhappy with it, but I'm still on the fence as to whether its helping my skin or not.3
I like that this soap can be used as a mask on my body and face. It's nice to have an all-in-one cleaner that is not harsh or drying on my skin.4
I used this soap and other versions of African black soap for about a year, and this was one of the best. It can get drying, so use a heavy duty moisturizer (shea butter works great) when you use this, or alternate days. It does work well for acne, really brought down the number of pimples I had although I don't think it stopped new pimples from forming - if I skipped a few days my skin flared right back up.4
I used this product as soon as I got it and I fell in love! My skin felt so smooth and looked clear, it was love at first sight although I have to say I was a bit sketchy at first but not anymore.4
I'm pretty obsessed with this soap. It's amazing at clearing up the skin. If used everyday it has dried out my skin but if I use it 2-3 times a week, it's great.4
Got this soap for my husbands bad case of back acne. It worked very well after a week of continued use. It really brought everything to the surface and eventually cleared up his back. The only negative was the black all over the shower.4
I don't really know how to describe it it wasn't drying but it wasn't moisturizing. It seems to do a OK job but I honestly haven't been about to use it enough to judge it completely.4
The only drawback on this soap is that you cannot leave it in the shower unless you have a soap cover. It will drip brown soap all down your tub. The upside is that your skin feels clean and over time brighter as in healthier. I probably will not buy it again because it was a tad too expensive and it didnt last long.4
I had never tried African black soap before and was excited to try it. My roommate gets the type from the local store and hates that it stains her washcloths. I did not have that problem with this product. It seemed to work pretty well. I would've prepared a better scent but it was fun to try regardless.4
I was hesitant about this soap but heard wonderful things about it so gave it a try. It leaves your face feeling very clean but not dry.4
