We love a shimmery shadow, but often we find ourselves in more of a matte mood. If you’re looking to add a bit of color without any shine, consider this velvety shadow. Cement, a medium grey, is perfect for a daytime smoky eye, and we love dabbing a bit of Alabaster, a peachy ivory, in the corners of our eyes as a quick brightening cheat. Darker shades like Purple Sage and Burnt Umber will instantly up the glam factor.
I do not think I would buy this. First the sample was very small and the color wasn't anything I would like. Second I would have to apply so much to even get any color on my lids.1
I had the purple sage as a sample (which I still have left after 4 months) and I love it ! Its the perfect color for my hazel eyes and it last longer than any other eye shadow I've ever used.4
For those who care about the details of their eyeshadow, MAKE's Matte Finish ticks every box: (1) the formulation is smooth and consistent; (2) it may take a few layers of application with a brush to achieve the pure pigment color in the compact, but that also allows for more subtle, less intense application of color and easy blending; (3) there is no transfer or "fallout" to the upper cheek or lower lid; (4) pigment is true and long-lasting throughout the day; and (5) when used with a quality primer, no creasing.
I currently own both Purple Sage (available here), a deep, muted purple that adds drama with my fair skin, and Poppy (not currently available on Birchbox, but along with many other colors for purchase on MAKE's own site), a bright orange that really makes my blue/green eyes pop. Most importantly for buying online, MAKE describes both the primary color and the undertone with admirable specificity, making it so much easier to match shades to skin tones and eye colors.
this product is great! i like a natural look and this is spot on. makes me look very refreshed and awake in the morning!5
I have the eyeshadow in the shade Alabaster, and I am blown away! It is the perfect color to layer as base, ware alone, or with a more bold eyeliner! It also is the perfect shade for evening out any darkness on the eyelid area!5
Burnt Umber is an excellent shade that layers well, blends well and lasts all day. I was impressed that it didn't crease or smudge - now I layer it under almost everything!5
Wonderful eye shadow! It's hard to find just the write shade AND it not be crumbly. I have a pet peeve against any eye shadow that leaves residue to fall onto my cheeks, and this does not do that-- it applies easily and blends well.5
Very ordinary. Nothing special for the price. (I typically use a light matte shadow for a base and this did not have good staying power nor was the pigment strong.)2
It is difficult to find an eyeshadow that is a neutral, but not washed out looking. The matte formulation lasts all day- colors are lovely.5
I really like the MAKE matte shadows. You can get subtle color with them and they blend nicely. I use my fingers instead of an applicator. I received the cement color as a sample and decided to try the purple sage--they go very well together.4
