The world of skincare is a battlefield, what with all the product strategy involved and dodging of potential beauty minefields. That’s why when we find something we love, like this longtime favorite, we stick with it. Originally created for professionals, philosophy®’s hope in a jar™ has been a best-seller for years. With a soufflé-like texture, it melts into your skin to leave your face feeling refreshed and supple.
I really LOVE the way this makes my face feel after using it. Before I read the description I even told my husband, "I love the way this feels, its as though it melts into my skin." However, I HATE the smell. You'd think, philosophy a brand with some pretty awesome smelling stuff could make their daily face moisturizer smell at least decent with a natural essential oil or something. I probably won't buy this stuff again or at least try some other things since this one doesn't smell great.3
This was the first philosophy product I ever bought a few years back and it got me hooked. It left my skin feeling unbelievably soft, but without the sticky, gooey or even greasy feeling a lot of moisturizers leave behind. Definitely would recommend this product.5
I switched from origins to hope in a jar and I have to say, I was disappointed. It was difficult to move around my face, sticking/globbing in areas. Also, I noticed slight break outs around my mouth. I've only deduced it must be this, since I haven't had that problem in the past.
However, it is very light-weight and once I get it everywhere, it does feel very smooth.
Like other reviewers, I also noticed that this has a VERY strong smell. I didn't expect this in a face cream. Used it anyways and got a bad rash on my face. I do have very sensitive skin, but never have I encountered a reaction like this with a face cream. Be careful...1
I really was bothered by the smell of this cream. It was way too strong especially since it's a face cream. I couldn't use this again.1
I have very oily and sensitive skin. This moisturizer is not only way overpriced but smells horrific. It made my face a greasy mess and caused breakouts all over my face.1
The moisturizer is OK... Not great not awful.. Just barely OK. But the smell! It's horrible! I had to return it because I couldn't get past the smell. It also left my sking feeling slightly greasy-anf my skin is very dry. Definitely NOT something I wanted spend that much money one to be that disappointed.1
I had very oily skin my whole life until a few years ago. Even in the dry winter air, I was still shiny. But I guess being (almost) 40 means my skin is changing. I got a sample of this two winters ago and was AMAZED at how good my skin felt after using it a few times. I purchased a jar immediately. Now my skin is even drier and I switched to a moisturizing balm for winter. But I would HIGHLY recommend this for mid-level moisturizing for combo skin.
The smell...that's where it lost a star. I don't get it. It's such a weird almost industrial scent. I disliked it so much that I almost stopped using it because it's hard not to smell your face. If you add a drop or two of an essential oil (if your skin can handle that), it helps. But ew.
I'm a huge fan of Philosophy. Hope in a jar is my winter moisturizer. I use Bobbi Brown for my summer and spring moisturizer but I switched to renewed hope in a jar last year and loved it. I went back to the regular one this year and realized that I love renewed hope in jar much better than this one. With that said, I still love the brand.3
I really wanted to like this product. This caused me to seriously breakout. The smell isn't the greatest either, but I imagine it wouldn't be a big deal if the product actually works for you.2
