Can’t decide between two nail polish hues? The pros at Ruby Wing have come up with a solution to the ultimate polish conundrum: color-changing polish. Wear one vibrant shade indoors, and embrace a totally different color when the sun's UV rays hit your nails. Better yet, these polishes are lightly scented with the floral notes. We’re adding these to our mani must-have list.
I received the Poppy color (hot pink indoors, purple outdoors). I tried it on my toes as soon as I received it. I did a base coat, two color coats, and a top coat. The actual color dried to a sort of matte finish before I applied the top coat. After the polish dried, I stepped outside into direct sunlight, and the color changed almost immediately. It was pretty cool! The downside was that although the color looked pretty good indoors, I could see it looked very streaky outdoors. I will do three color coats next time. Also, I guess these are supposed to be "lightly scented," but I didn't notice that.
I would consider buying another color, but I don't like the BB options. Although the Peony looks like a nice nude/peach color (good for an office), I hear it is more of a bright coral. Maybe BB will carry one of the glitter colors in the future!
the color in the bottle was very nice but the coverage wasn't good at all..i had to put like 3-4 coats for it to be solidly filled. haven't gone out yet to see the color change but i believe it will. nice product but not so fun putting on all those coats to make it show properly.2
I got he peony and love the color! The only concern is that is has lot so tiny "air" bubbles. so it make it a bit hard to give it a smooth coat. I still love it, fun and plan on getting more.3
I purchased the Poppy color, though I had my doubts that it would live up to expectations. It arrived, and it was a gorgeous neon/hot pink color (not really bubble gum pink as described). I brought it to my salon and had it put on my toes...she only used two coats and it seemed to apply just fine (none of the streaks or problems with coating others had mentioned). I'm not sure if it's matte as others described, but my girl applied a topcoat and it can out super shiny and glossy. This morning I stepped out into the sun and BAM, it turned a really pretty deep purple! Amazing! I will buy the other colors for sure! The only thing that's "misleading" is that I do not feel it's really scented. I can't sniff my toes, but I held the bottle to my nose and it definitely smells like regular polish.5
I hadn't heard of color changing nail polish before receiving it in this month's Birchbox, but am so happy I got the sample! I received the Peony color, and both the indoor and outdoor colors are beautiful! Love this product.5
I love this! It's such a pretty color and the color changing is really neat! I will be purchasing this5
while i LOVe the whole color changing thing, the nail polish was "chalky" and didnt go on smoothly and the colors weren't my favorite (bright orange)- loved ONE of the colors4
A main issue I have with most polishes is poor texture and difficult application. One thing this has going for it is that it applies very smoothly. However, the finish seems a little strange- reminiscent of when my friends and I used to "paint" our nails with highlighters. Going to give it another try, though and try more coats.3
got the peony as the sample... it goes on thin and it dries fast. the color change takes time, so be patient.4
I got the "Poppy" shade in my birch box, and it is a pretty day-glow pink color. I saw that it was supposed to be a two toned type of lacquer, but it didn't work on me. The formula required two coats on a naked nail in order to show up, but perhaps if it were on top of a white base it'd work better. I do so love the color, however, so even though it didn't work for me, I will def purchase more. With my collection at 120+ polishes, this is the first of it's kind for me!4
