Can't decide between two nail polish hues? The pros at Ruby Wing have come up with a solution to the ultimate polish conundrum: color-changing polish. Wear one vibrant shade indoors, and embrace a totally different color when the sun's UV rays hit your nails, thanks to the brand's SolarActive® Technology. Each Ruby Wing polish is non-toxic, vegan, and environmentally safe—plus has a light floral scent
got the peony as the sample... it goes on thin and it dries fast. the color change takes time, so be patient.4
I got the "Poppy" shade in my birch box, and it is a pretty day-glow pink color. I saw that it was supposed to be a two toned type of lacquer, but it didn't work on me. The formula required two coats on a naked nail in order to show up, but perhaps if it were on top of a white base it'd work better. I do so love the color, however, so even though it didn't work for me, I will def purchase more. With my collection at 120+ polishes, this is the first of it's kind for me!4
I like the idea and color(s) of this polish, but as a few other reviewers mentioned it took several coats to get it to look right and it still doesn't look even after it dried. I'd rather stick to a nail polish that stays one color but looks better on.3
I'm a fan of nail polish, but i did NOT expect to like the Peony that arrived in my April box. It's a very peachy, girly pink. Not my usual style. I LOVE THIS COLOR. Neither shade makes my fingers look stubby, and so far, it really goes with everything.
Some reviews are complaining about a couple of points, I'll address those really quick ...
-The color doesn't change much: Sort of true, sort of false. The color will not change under any light but sunlight, but in sunlight, it will actually exhibit lots of shades. It'll only turn all the way in direct, bright sunlight. So it is sort of a subtle thing, but I think that adds to the charm.
-It chips a lot more than other polish - I actually feel this is completely false. I work in fast food (basically), and went thorough two whole very hard shifts without much damage to my coat. Also, consider that this polish may not include a base and topcoat in the polish it's self like a lot of off-the-shelf polishes do in convenience stores, so that is going to make it wear differently.
It goes on chalky/streaky - Streaky, yes, I'll admit. It may take a coat or two more than other polish to clear it up. That is my only complaint about Ruby Wing really. Chalky - not at all. At least not for me. Once again, probably no base or topcoat built into this polish, so it may not go on the same way as a polish you buy at Walmart.
I will absolutely be buying this polish over and over, maybe even a whole set of the colors. Just keep in mind when you're buying this that the remarkable part about this polish IS that it changes colors. Not that it's an all-in-one manicure, not that it's a Tefflon-strong wear.
I didn't like this polish at all... Even after shaking the bottle it came out cloudy and coagulated1
I recieved Peony in my box this month and tried it out. I didn't like how it applied- I used 2 coats and it was very streaky and uneven. I tried applying it on its own and on top of a clear base. But- it definitely changes color in the sunlight, which is pretty cool! I'll probably use up my sample, but I doubt that I will purchase the full size.3
Love the color changing effects. It is a little difficult to apply even coats.5
I really enjoyed the peony shade that I received. It is the perfect shade of pink and the red that it changes to is great as well.
However, the nail polish doesn't feel as smooth or as long-lasting as some other higher end brands I have used in the past. It chipped fairly easily and the coverage wasn't great.
If you want a step up from the color changing nail polish you find at the drug store, than this is for you!
I received the Poppy color in my Birchbox this month and I am in love! The pink is so bright and fun when you are inside then it just transitions flawlessly into plum when I walk into the sun! I ordered it for myself and plan on getting my mom and sister bottles too!5
So I wanted to love this. And I do absolutely looove the indoor color, its a nice bright almost neon coral/peach color (peony), right up my alley. However it went on pretty streaky and took forever to dry. I also noticed little black fibers on almost every nail, every coat ( i needed at least 3, and most likely will need more when i smudge it due to slooow dry time!). There were also a lot of bubbles in it, I rolled it between my hands instead of shaking and still, bubbles. I did paint it on the day I got it so maybe it got shaken up in shipping, and I live in the mtns of CO so maybe altitude affects it too?? I could do without the scent too, it just smells like really bad perfume and nail polish mixed together. I would try to return it due to the fibers and overall lack of quality, but I love the color so much indoors that I'll live with it ( i'd give it 2 1/2 stars if I could, but I'm being generous because of the color). I haven't seen the color change in the sunlight yet but I hope it is awesome to make up for the quality shortcomings. I hope it still changes under glitter too, because I think that's the only thing to do to help the streaking, bubbles, and fibers. I most likely will not be buying this again, and I wish I had received it in my box this month instead of wasting my money.3
