As SPF fiends, we know it’s tough to find a non-greasy sunscreen that feels great even under our makeup. We’re fans of CoTZ’s mineral-rich sunscreen because the silky formula has a sheer matte finish, which means we can even layer foundation or BB cream on top without worrying about excess oil or shine.
I love the matte finish! I have naturally oily skin but need the coverage (which is why i like the light tan shade). The product doesn't seem very thick and I don't have to worry about looking shiny. Relatively odorless which is always a plus!3
The sunscreen for "light skin tone" is actually just white, and showed up bright white on my (admittedly very pale) skin. I have previously tried the next-darkest shade and it was too dark, so it appears there is not any shade that is right for me. The white was especially noticeable since zinc oxide sits on the surface of the skin instead of being absorbed like chemical sunscreens do.
As for its effectiveness, I have not gotten a sunburn since switching to this brand.
I have a family history of melanoma, and with my lily-white, Celtic skin I am maniacal about sun protection. I use this before sun exposure either alone, or in conjunction with a SPF BB cream. The thicker consistency makes it easy to apply, but it leaves your skin matte, not greasy. I have slightly oily skin and larger pores than I'd like, and this sunscreen keeps my oils balanced rather than worsening the problem. After returning from a week-long Caribbean cruise and applying this to my face and neck twice daily, everyone noted that I didn't look like I'd gotten any sun -- good news for me! However, for anyone whose complexion is anything darker than paper white, I'd consider buying the darker shade, because this stuff goes on WHITE!5
At first sight, I didn't think I could wear this lotion, as it looked way too dark for my fair skin. But I found that it blended so easily that I could work it over my face and neck and not have an orange cast to my skin. My skin does't need heavy color correction, so in summer, this can work alone as a primer/foundation, and keep my face makeup feeling light and not oily. I really like the fact that it's mineral-based, too. The only downside for me was that I did see it gathering in fine lines by midday.4
This was too heavy feeling and felt very thick on my face. My face also broke out after I used this. It might have just been that it didn't go well with my skin type.2
I used this product when I got to the beach and was pleased with the following: the mousse-like texture, it blending perfectly into skin, and that it doesn't feel greasy but silky. The downsides? I can't really think of one in particular but I wouldn't use this over Coppertone's Sensitive Skin SPF 50 or Supergoop's CC cream.4
This product rocked. I wasn't sure how it would blend with my skin tone but it turned out looking great. I was happy to know it protected me from UVA rays. I spend a lot of time in the sun. I like to spend time outdoors in nature so this is a product I would love to purchase in the future.4
I am always looking for a better sunscreen for my face, and Mays box had the Colz face screen. I useed the sample and immediately ordrd the big one. It feels so, so smooth on your face,
Thank you Birchbox
You will never believe this is a sunscreen. It's so light and goes on easily. No smell and is very sheer and light on your face. I also like that it has a little tint to it. This will be layered under my make up this summer.5
This went on like a tinted primer and unfortunately it did not blend well into my skin, pilling up and becoming noticeable.2
