If you can’t pop into Baxter’s Los Angeles barbershop—a throwback with subway tile and bricks walls, vintage porcelain chairs, and hot towel treatments given by master barbers—this shave cream is the next best thing. We recommend starting with shave oil, then applying the shaving formula with a brush. and finishing with aftershave.
Did not like it at all, no lather pretty flat did not provide a close shave. Went right back to my old shave gel.1
I used this with an old-fashioned, double-edged safety razor. The cream didn't do much to make my shave easier. I couldn't get any lather. I might just as well have used a bar of soap and water.1
The fragrance was great, as was the texture, but I ended up breaking out after shaving with this. I have sensitive skin on my neck and end up breaking out with razor burn unless I use certain types of cream. This one, unfortunately, was not one of the good types for me.1
I usually prefer thick, foamy shaving creams and this one had the thin/oily texture of sunscreen. It also caused an acne breakout on my chin after using.1
I was not a fan of this shaving cream (was excited to try it) as it simply did not provide a good lather with my shaving brush.1
Sorry - I just can't get into the Baxter products. I think this is the third month in a row that BB has had their samples in a monthly box. Out of the three, I mildly enjoyed the aftershave balm only. I found the shave cream to be thin and disperse too quickly - it has no body or oomph. Way too thin.1
Despite the packaging suggesting that this cream goes will with shaving brushes, it was awful. I couldn't get a lather no matter how hard I tried.
I wanted to try it brushless, but the sample size was too small to try again.
My husband has tried this 3 times already to give it a fair go and says that the consistency is like a lotion and does not work well for him and his thick facial hair. He did not like feeling like he had nothing on his face and he got cut several times.1
I use a shave brush and was unable to get any lather going with this. I ended up having to use multiple times the amount of shave cream I generally need to to add a thin layer to my face. I tried without the brush and it still was ineffective. Terrible product.1
I received the Baxter of California Super Close Shave formula in my Birchbox in what looks like a full-size sample.
The sample appeared to be fairly dry when compared to other shaving creams.
I found that the cream would not lather up using my Baxter badger-hair shaving brush. Since brush lathering didn't work I tried applying the product using my fingers as directed on the container. The product soaked into my skin leaving nothing to cushion my razor. Given the poor performance of the product thus far I didn't risk shaving with the product. Instead I washed it all off and reached for my usual shaving cream.
Overall, the Baxter of California Super Close Shave Formula proved completely ineffective as a shaving cream. This is disappointing since I've generally been happy with most other Baxter products.
