Liz Earle Instant Boost™ Skin Tonic

British beauty pioneer Liz Earle has a mantra: cleanse, tone, and moisturize, twice a day, every day. And thanks to Liz, those are words we can definitely live by. With its sublime floral scent (think fresh cut roses) and calming botanicals like chamomile, cucumber, and aloe, this alcohol-free toner soothes and hydrates even the most troubled complexions. In lieu of harsh disinfectants, hops extract tones the skin and swipes away bacteria.

Not impressed

I received this in the Liz Earle kit that I purchased and I was not really impressed. I could not really tell that it did anything beneficial for my skin at all. The fragrance is very light and it has a cool feel when applied, but I did not feel like it improved my skin appearance at all. Not for me.

Horrifying

I'll preface with my skin type: relatively normal, can become dry in the winter, no acne, never oily, and I wear makeup daily. Occasionally I have some redness on my cheeks but that is mostly due to my paleness. I've never had a skin reaction to any skin care product, makeup, laundry detergent, soap, etc. I have healthy enough skin that makeup is not needed (just a pleasure.)

I used this sample after a shower in the morning. I had cleansed in the shower, towel dried my face, and then spritzed. I liked how the spray came out in a mist rather than a watery splash. That is about the only nice thing I will say about this product. If we could post photos in these reviews you'd see why.

At first when I felt the warm, tingling sensation on my skin I had thought it was just the "energizing" portion of the experience. I proceeded to put makeup on and leave for the day. Within 8 hours I had noticed my forehead was incredibly dry and was burning in some spots. There were raised rough patches under my foundation. I removed my makeup and was shocked to see my entire face was covered in tiny to medium sized red blotches. They were literally everywhere but my eyes on bridge of my nose. They were tender to the touch and I could pick at them. They itched a bit too. Three days after using the product and not wearing makeup I still have itchy raised blotches of all sizes and varying redness covering my whole face. The burning sensation is still present on the forehead and nose.

User beware. Glad to hear others have had pleasant experiences.

Horrifying breakout
Purchased

I have sensitive skin. I bought the hot cloth cleanser system first and then added the tonic and moisturizer a few days later. I broke out right away. Red, painful cystic acne on my otherwise normally blemish free cheeks and chin. I look like a teenager and am researching in hopes of clearing it up as soon as possible. I should have known that using a product with a floral scent was a bad idea, as I learned years ago while I was in the skincare business, that fragrance masks the smells of other not so great ingredients. This was a quick return.

update the ingredient list!!!
Purchased

At the time of purchase and at the current time I'm writing this review, the ingredient list on the BB website does NOT list Citric Acid and Limonene - these are ingredients I am allergic to! When I saw that it allegedly didn't contain these ingredients, I purchased it. Lo and behold, when I received the shipment, I checked the back of the bottle only to find that it DOES contain Citric Acid and Limonene.

I emailed customer service and made them aware of this issue - the tonic spritzer DOES list these ingredients, but this one does not. At the time of me writing this review, the ingredient list has not been revised to reflect the inclusion of the two ingredients.

I was able to do an exchange and customer service was very responsive and helpful, but I'm still upset that I haven't yet found the right toner for me :(

Liz Earle Tonic

I love Liz Earle's skincare line. I used their cleanser for a long time. I got this toner as a sample in a birchbox and it's nice but for me didn't do anything for my skin one way or another. It didn't moisturize, but it wasn't drying. It didn't tone, but it didn't cause redness either.

My face + this toner = unhappiness
Purchased

I wanted to love this toner so much! But after using it, I started to break out. I tried using it a couple times after my face calmed down, but I guess we're just not compatible.

Bought this with the hot cloth cleanser....

I really wanted to LOVE this product, thought with the great reviews it would be good for my skin. I used this skin tonic for 8 days and my skin broke out really badly.

no noticeable difference

This "skin booster" hasn't done anything noticeable to my skin at all. It does have a nice smell to it, but leaves kind of a tacky dry feeling on my skin. Just seems like a pointless step in between cleansing and moisturizing. Too bad too because I loved the Liz Earle cleanser that this is supposed to be paired with.

Unable to see a difference with or without this product

This product seems to serve no foreseeable difference whether U use it or not. I use the cleanser with muslin clothes and the moisturizer... And I've come to cut this toner out of my facial routine.

Holy floral.
Purchased

I fell in love with the Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser system, and thought I would give this facial toner a go. I use a facial toner regularly, and don't feel particularly in love with any brand that I've tried in the past, and I'm afraid I feel the same about this one. Many reviewers commented about the fragrance, which ended up being a lot of the reason I didn't reorder. If you're excited about floral, this is for you. If you have sensitive skin or floral allergies, I might think twice. I have very sensitive skin, and this did cause a mild redness, but usually it disappeared shortly afterward. I did not feel/see a difference in my skin, however, so I discontinued use.
