We know you love diving into samples as much as we do, and the Mystery Sample Pack gives you the chance to try some of our favorite products. Receive two samples for free by spending $35+ on any full-size products from the shop. It includes one deluxe sample and one standard sample that we’re especially excited about right this minute, and here’s the really fun part: Their identities will remain secret until you receive your order. Alternatively, you can purchase this mysterious sample duo on its own for $10.
Usually, I love everything that I receive from Birchbox, so I was a little disappointed with my Mystery Sample pack. I understand that it's a bit of a crapshoot, and that in this case I received it for free, but if I had spent $10 on it, I would have been extremely upset.
(1) Color Club Mini Nail polish(.25fl.oz)
(1) Sample packet Obliphica Intensive Leave in Moisturizing Cream(1.01fl.oz.)
A full size (.5fl.oz.) Cloro CLub Polish costs $8.50 here in the BB shop, and the smallest full size of the Cream (9.29fl.oz.)(not available in the BB shop, it seems)
costs $21.99 online.
This brings the value of the Duo to just under $7. Which is a bit disappointing.
The(day-glow orange) nail polish also leaked all over the other sample and the bag they were in.
This is the first less than glowing review I've ever left, and I hope it's the last I will need to write.
Please don't ever pay for this - it's only ever worth it if you get it free. This is the 3rd time I've gotten a mystery sample pack and the first 2 times I got samples that I had received in the past but actually liked so I used them again and was happy. This time I got two tiny conditioner samples (both in the small packages you have to rip open) and neither of them is for my hair type. I think they just throw in whatever they have extras of. Pretty underwhelming when you compare it to the normal fun and excitement of getting a box. But I'm excited about what I actually ordered and didn't pay for this so I won't complain. But the description of "one deluxe sample and one standard sample that we’re especially excited about right this minute" is not accurate at all.3
I received the Grandcentral Beauty smart skin perfecting serum+primer. I have oily skin that's prone to breakouts, and this did break me out. I didn't notice any difference using this with or without my makeup. I also received Obliphica Treatment Conditioner. I do color my hair, and have oily hair as well. It's sodium chloride free, smells great, and made my hair really soft and shiny without being oily. I will be purchasing this in the near future.4
I was a bit disappointed with this GWP. The samples I got were tiny and repeats of samples I already received in prior boxes.2
Small and a good size sample. Both of mine were hair conditioners/treatments. They were both good for travel bags. Glad it was a gift w purchase.3
I loved all my purchases, and it was great to get an extra bonus!5
I got the mystery pack for free (I wouldn't pay for it on its own). I received two sample packets of Dr. Hauschka (serum and day cream). I had been wanting to try Dr. Hauschka products, so I was thrilled to receive the samples. Kind of wish the samples were packaged in a way that would make the product last longer though. Also got a sample hair leave-in conditioner in a bigger package. Again, I could have used it several times, but because of the packaging, it won't keep as long.4
Honestly, I was really disappointed in this mystery pack. One of the products that I got was something I had received in a previous box (and hadn't really enjoyed then, either). I know it's probably difficult to make sure nobody gets repeats, but I wasn't thrilled and probably wouldn't try to get this mystery pack again.2
I can't be too disappointed. I got two foil packets. One was a leave in conditioner and the other was an anti-aging serum that I'll pass on to my mom. Hoping for something more exciting next time.3
I will agree with others in that you should never pay $10 for this. ALWAYS get it FREE with your $35+ purchase. I recently placed an order for myself, and gifted a subscription for a friend. I got two bonus packs with my orders. To my disappointment, when I opened the bonus packs they were exactly the same, and were foil packet samples. It was nice that I didn't pay for it, but it still felt a little bit like a rip off. Previously, I've gotten Color Club nail polish and a Cynthia Rowley eyeliner in my bonus packs (which was great!), so getting a few shampoo samples (not deluxe samples, foil packets) felt a little weak.2
