This ringlet-loving sampler is your chance to try DevaCurl’s innovative curl care system. Each trio includes a creamy lather-free cleanser, a hydrating conditioner, and a lightweight, curl-defining gel. All three work with your hair’s natural texture, so you’re left with soft, shiny spirals without that pesky halo of frizz.
I have fine, thin curly hair. I tried the shampoo and immediately thought it smelled like Pledge (lemon scent), but not in a pleasant way. Also, the shampoo didn't lather. I liked the conditioner, it had a nice gardenia or hibiscus scent and left my hair feeling soft. I read that the gel was "lightweight" and was not going to take a chance. I eventually gave the shampoo a second chance, but nothing changed.2
The shampoo, conditioner and gel did not weigh my hair down and kept the frizzies away but it had a very medicinal/floral scent. The shampoo smells like dandruff shampoo, the conditioner is a little more floral medicinal and the gel trys to cover it all up with more floral scent. While the products worked well and made my hair feel wonderful, I couldnt get over the smell. My hair had great shine and movement, but smelled like an old man.2
I felt like it left my hair heavy. I have very light curls so any heavy product weighs them down and this wasnt really what I was looking for2
I was excited to try this product, as I have a friend who LOVES the brand. It didn't excite me the way I wanted it to! The smell was a bit off putting, but I could get used to it, but I just didn't notice a huge difference in how my hair looked, felt or behaved. I'm really glad I tried it, but not sure I would buy it. Sample size was great, though, I got 3 full uses out of the samples!2
I this shampoo does not bubble. I have never used a shampoo that doesn't lather up. Its really different. I don't think I like it. I would have to use more than the sample to really judge it.2
I've used this product a few different times. I feel like the first week or so with this line isn't great until your hair adjusts to the no poo. It isn't something I can use if I need to have a good hair day.2
No - poo is made for curly hair but it is not really that effective on very coarse thick curly hair such as mine. I find that it is drying and does not soften my hair which is the opposite effect that is intended. Maybe it is better for curly hair that is finer?
The sample size was generous though - I give it that.
I received this system in past Birchbox and used it once and wasn't too fond of it. I realize the shampoo isn't meant to lather but without the lather, I just felt that my hair wasn't getting any cleaner and that I was just rubbing oil around. In addition, the shampoo was pretty strong smelling. Considering the system is meant for curly hair that requires a lot of hydration, the conditioner was very thin and runny and I felt like I couldn't coat my hair with enough. Thankfully, the conditioner didn't smell as much as the shampoo. Lastly, the gel did pretty much nothing for me. It didn't make my hair as stiff and crunchy as another type of gel would have, but it didn't do much in the way of frizz control or curl definition. I have no doubt that the system works for some people, maybe those with more uniform curls rather than inconsistent curls/waves, but unfortunately it didn't do the trick for me.2
This product did what it said it would for the most part. It was the first I'd used a no-lather shampoo and after just shampooing my hair felt really soft. I usually use Beauty Protector and a sea salt spray but decided to only use this system to give it an honest review.
I let my hair air dry with the gel and it did produce soft curls - but my hair ended up a little frizzy in places and was fairly limp. I didn't get much body out of it. I normally use a blow out spray in addition to styling gel for curly/wavy hair and I am also of the "the higher the hair the closer to God" persuasion so I really like my hair to be full and this product didn't do it for me.
I was skeptical about the non-foaming shampoo, but it did leave my hair feeling very soft, and the conditioner felt rich. I followed them up with the styling gel, but after my hair dried, it had crispy bits that I could not get to soften by scrunching, as they recommend. The softer parts of my hair were just shapeless. I must not have quite the right texture for this system.2
