Invented by celebrity hairstylist Sarah Potempa, this game-changing curling iron is genius enough to crown her the Thomas Edison of hot tools. Her light-bulb equivalent of a beauty breakthrough? The steel rod rotates on its own, saving you the trouble of manually wrapping your curls—and ensuring that your ringlets are evenly spaced. At the press of a button, the rotating curling iron gently winds each lock of hair around its heated ceramic rod (and stops as soon as you let go). The rod can be switched to rotate clockwise or counterclockwise, so your curls always twist away from your face. Eureka!
THE GOOD: I just got this thing two days ago and have used it twice already-- it's great. It took me about 25 minutes to curl my hair all the way around (I have long hair and a lot of it) the first time, and right around 20 min the second time. I'm thinking after a few more tries I can knock it down to around 15? Which is pretty awesome in my opinion!
THE BAD: The wand is enormous. I couldn't tell by the photo how big this thing was going to be. Even my husband's eyes bulged when he saw it. I'm a small girl with small hands so this was a little hard for me to handle, but I'm getting better and I think I will eventually do fine with it. Also, the instructions say to always clamp the hair with the clamp facing inward toward you, and I disagree with that. If you do it that way on the left side you get clamp marks on your hair! But it works fine that way on the right. So on the LEFT- clamp outward, and on the RIGHT- clamp inward. Remember that :) And lastly be careful not to accidentally click the "GO" button before you're ready. It will start spinning on you and mess you all up. Someone else mentioned their hair getting stuck but I had no issues with that at all. I just made sure the little "kickstand" thing was pushed down so it wasn't in the way at all.
THE UGLY: As I mentioned, the wand is huge. It's also very hot. I had it set at 350 which was the default temp and also what it said was necessary for my type of hair. When I was curling the back of my head, my hand got tired and I unintentionally dropped my wrist to relax. The wand touched the back of my next for a split second and left me a nasty 2 inch burn mark. So, beware of this!
All that said, I love this thing and am so happy I got it. I definitely recommend it!
I have never been able to master curling my own hair. I've bought countless clipped and clipless curling irons over the years (including the not-so-cheap Sedu clipless), but yet I've never found success. I saved up my Birchbox points for the BEACHWAVER for awhile and then finally pulled the trigger with the Black Friday discount, and crossed my fingers that it was as good as the reviews said. I was not disappointed! This thing makes it sooooo easy!!! My hair looked beautiful and it took so little time, I can totally see curling my hair in the morning before work for the first time in my life. SO AMAZING!!5
I have the straightest hair that never ever holds a curl. I've had my hair professionally done only to have it look messy and flat by the end of the night. I normally wouldn't ever spend this much on a curling iron but I read so many awesome reviews I decided to give it a shot. It took me about 20 min to curl my whole head (I have long hair to about my bra strap) and it stayed in place for an outdoor, very windy wedding and an entire reception where I danced to my hearts content and it still looked good at the end of the night...and I forgot to bring hairspray with me. Seriously amazeballs5
I was hesitant to buy this product based on the steep price tag. But I have no regrets after using it! I have never been able to figure out how to use a curling iron, and this is pretty much idiot proof. And it's fun to use! If you're someone who struggles with a curling iron--and even if you're not--this is for you. The curls/beachwaves it creates are beautiful and worth the investment. I always get compliments on my hair when I use this, and it's only because of this tool!5
I bought this with hesitation even tho I have a curling iron, and two curling wands. I am not the most skilled when it comes to using hair tools, and when I do decide to style my hair it takes a lot of time for me and I don't get the same result every time. This wand has made everything so much easier. My curls look how I want them to look and I have definitely improved on the time management. It's a little scary at first, the barrel moves unexpectedly fast, but after getting used to it, it's not too bad. It has definitely replaced my previous wands. And I can't wait to start using it more and more for the holidays and parties.5
I was looking for something that would give me those perfect curls to waves look that i don't get naturally - i have thick hair; frizzy, long, wavy in the wrong places. I used to just blow out my hair and leave it as is - but something was missing...this tool! After getting a legit blowout in NYC with the perfect curly waves i knew i had to learn how to do it myself. This thing is paying for itself; it's easy to learn; a breeze to use, curls/waves last forever, and it's just...amazing. I will never again have to resort to a blowout because i have the secret weapon! and you can have it too!5
I love this curling iron! It makes beach waves a breeze. Easy to use and makes curling your hair a quick step. I would definitely recommend this iron to a friend. Not to mention Sarah is a sweet girl from my hometown!5
I am not the kind of person that spends this kind of money on a curling iron. Like, ever. So, after reading all these glowing reviews and acquiring a Birchbox discount, I caved in. My rationale was that I could always return it. Well, I've used it 3x already and I have to admit that the hype is true. This iron produces beautifully spaced ringlets that lasts for an additional day or two. I've lost track of the compliments I've received on my hair. It was easy to use from the start and I didn't find it bulky. I highly recommend this!5
This is a real game changer. I never would curl my hair in the past and now I do it all the time. So easy and love the length for my super long hair. The curls last for me even to day two!5
I'm not great at styling my hair so this curler has been great. It took me a few tries to get the hang of it and I suffered a couple minor burns (more a result of my clumsiness than an issue with the design) but I like how my hair comes out. It's expensive but for me, it's been worth it.5
