This streamlined water filter delivers crisp, clean water, minimalist good looks, and a subscription service that means you never have to deal with stickers or timers again—the company delivers new filters to your door every two months. An organic filter made of silk and food-based plastic means you’ll never have those pesky black flecks again (or the guilt of throwing away a bulky landfill filter). Plus, the glass carafe is so stylish it’s a worthy addition to your dinner table.
You will find many so called reviews for the Soma online, but most are just marketing hype discussing it's aesthetics and eco-friendly background. They don't mention it's failure at it's primary purpose - being a functional water filter.
Go to fill it and unless you use an extremely gentle stream the water will reflect off of the top and spill everywhere. Not a one time thing, expect this repeatedly.
Even with a very gentle fill water will still collect on the top of the filter, so every time you go to pour a glass it will slop over your hand/pants/etc. Expect this to happen often, as even a topped off fill won't get you two large glasses of water.
The most prominent issue of course? The company has yet to publish that it actually filters out... anything. Chlorine, fluoride, heavy metals, chemicals - isn't the whole point of a water filter to get rid of that stuff?
Don't worry, you can just go back to your old filter. It's not like they locked you into a year long prepaid subscription model. Wait...
Love the look. Yes it might be tricky to poor but we like the look and it's an excuse to get us to drink more water. Without it there's nothing else more refreshing in sight.
Some complain it spills. Haven't had trouble yet but it's never that full when I use it. Overall, I like it and all our other friends like theirs too. Nice for a couple.
Just outstanding, an everyday luxury that anyone will like.
I love the design, perfect on any table, and it tends to impress guests. Even more impressive is the clean, pure taste of the water.
I like things that have style, form and most importantly function.
I tend to try things first, and am always on the lookout for a unique gift - SOMA fit's the bill. Ultra easy to use, a great look and perfect result.
This is a keeper, and would make a most welcome gift to just about anyone, from college age to seniors.
Everything about the product is high-end, from the packaging to the instructions. You can even use it for infusion's! (why not?).
This is an attractive water pitcher. I think it takes too long to filter and it does not hold enough water for me. I find it a little awkward in design. I do not like the "plastic" parts. I love that it is glass, I only wish brita made a glass pitcher. I prefer how the water out of brita tastes. I am not sure if soma cleans the water well enough. I can't find any information on what it actually filters out. I will continue to use it but it can also make a great vase if all else fails.4
While the glass carafe may be an improvement over the plastic Brita or other filter systems, it is both too heavy and awkward to use. The top is poorly designed plastic and falls apart easily, making both pouring into and out of the carafe cumbersome. There is no way to actually know when any individual customer would need a new filter but you are required to sign up for ongoing deliveries. I am sorry I bought this product without seeing/handling it first and cannot find anywhere on their website to cancel my subscription.1
The most important thing about a water filter is whether it does the job it's supposed to do. So far I have found no information from Soma on what contaminants the Soma Water Filter filters out, or any third-party documentation on this. Lead? Chloroform? Arsenic? Other chemicals? Flouride? Pesticides? There's lot of hype about how pretty the decanter looks on a dining room table, and the fact that black specks don't appear in the container or in water as its poured. While I applaud the fact the filter is biodegradable, and the container is made of glass, not plastic, wise consumers need more facts, and a company that purports to be so environmentally conscious should be more forthcoming.3
I love how this filter looks. Very easy to use and set up. Filter replacement is a no brainer, they send it to you every two months.5
I bought this item here because the company seems to only have a Facebook website. I can't subscribe to the filter service without giving my contact info to FB, which is very annoying. I already have an Aqua Ovo at home, but I wanted this for the office and travel. I will have to figure out a work around or send it back.
None of the marketing information quantifies what impurities get filtered out or how much. The water passes through the filter so quickly that I do wonder if it really removes much at all. Yes, I did properly soak it and flush it first, as directed.
The container is attractive enough, but I would like the filter holder even better if it were stainless steel. Just because the filter itself uses compostable plastic doesn't mean the filter holder and lid have to be plastic.
Just got my Soma yesterday. Looks and functions beautifully so far. Only wish they had made silicone sleeve for it, so it doesnt bang when you put it on countertop. Makes me a little nervous and hsve to be extra cautious putting it down-especially when it is full.4
