To keep contestants’ faces shine-free under pressure (and scalding-hot stage lights), makeup artists for shows like American Idol and The Glee Project turn to this mattifying gel. The fast-drying formula creates an intermediate layer that absorbs grease for eight full hours. Use it to score a matte, shine-free look—with or without the help of makeup. Alcohol-free and oil-free, it’s safe for even acne-prone skin. Get ready for your close-up.
This product was wonderful under my makeup. I have pretty oily skin that usually makes even the most matte formula foundations have an oily glow after about an hour. This mattifying gel seriously did wonders for keeping the oily look under wraps while my makeup was on! I was surprised because I have tried similar products and did not have any results at all (at least that lasted longer than an hour) and it even stayed nice and matte after being outside in the heat. i would definitely buy this product in the future.4
Don't get me wrong, this is probably a fine product. I just like more of a dewy look, and don't struggle with oily skin, so it was kind of lost on me.3
This made me break out and didn't seem to serve any real purpose. I couldn't tell any difference in my skin after using this product.2
This product goes on SO smoothly and makes my skin so soft! Honestly, it makes my makeup go on more evenly. Better than any primer I've used before.5
Seriously, it's so hard to find a primer that does NOT contain silicones - I use a water-based foundation because my skin doesn't like them, which limits me to non-silicone based primers (basically, most of them). I sampled this in one of my first Birchboxes and was surprised at how well it worked - the first primer that did what it was supposed to in terms of increasing the wear-time of my foundation.
I have to moisturize well before using this, let it dry completely before applying the OC8. If I then give about 20mins for the OC8 to set completely, my foundation application goes much more smoothly (even application with no patchiness). Finally, it's important to completely remove your makeup and cleanse your face at the end of the day or else it could dry out your skin.
If most primers don't work for you, I highly recommend trying this out. It's the first one that actually worked for me and I plan to continue using it as my go-to foundation primer.
This is strong primer I bought for my oily skin. It works. It doesn't give my skin the perfect smooth texture other primers do, but it really does control grease and make my makeup last longer. I myself did not get eight hours out of this. It was more like 2-3, but that held in humid weather, too. Even sweating didn't have the same effect.
If I put this on when my hair is wet and touching my skin, it does turn into eraser shavings, so look out.
OC8 Mattifying Gel was a great find for the summer months when my normally dry skin can get a hint of oilness in my T zone. By applying a small amount to problem areas I saw a major difference throughout the day.5
I get shinny within an hour of applying my makeup usually. This doesn't solve my shinnyness completely but it keeps it at bay much longer than anything else I have tried. I highly recommend it.4
I love this product. It feels great on the skin, and I love the slight smell. Will continue to order this one!~5
I use this quite often but not a daily basis. It feels light and you do get a bit of the flawless look after applying foundation. I do have to say there is another product that I also use as a primer that I love. I switch off between this one and the other maker just to see if I can notice a big difference. So far, I can't tell the finishing look but for feel and texture wise, I'm leaning towards the other item.4
