This compact palette and brush set from Coastal Scents contains no fewer than 88 unique eye shadow shades. Break out the color wheel, because you’ll feel the urge to experiment with some daring new combos. Inspired by the sandy dunes and vibrant skies of the Sahara Desert, there’s a hue to match every color on your mood ring (and then some). Even Lawrence of Arabia would be impressed.
I don't really wear eyeshadow, so I'm not the best judge. I think the colors are really pretty and shimmery.1
The colors are amazing and so sparkely! I love this product5
The sample sized packaging was terrible. One of the eyeshadows crumbled and I had to use one I already had to get the desired smokey eye effect. But, the shadow was long-lasting even without primer and I liked the shades.4
Unfortunately, one of my shadows was reduced to smithereens in the shipping process. This has happened to me before with the shimmery shadows from Coastal Scents, it must be something with the formula that makes them extra delicate. That being said, these shadows are not bad. They require a primer, no question. They are fairly pigmented, but it depends on the shade. I would not recommend these shadows for someone with darker skin as it could end up being that half the colors aren't pigmented enough to make a statement. If you're a person who likes a lot of small shadows vs. a lot of one or two shadows, Coastal Scents is for you. Great for the person who is just getting into makeup. Great gift idea. It's a drugstore eyeshadow in terms of longevity and texture. Also be warned that the mica in these products does not tend to be finely milled, giving shimmery shades a chunky glitter look as opposed to a sheen. Coastal Scents is the brand that YouTube built, so if you have any questions regarding their products that is the place to go.2
The colors I received were pretty. They were pinks and a gray--the labeling said "smokey eye" and indeed it did create a smokey eye. I liked it because it was not your typical smokey eye. I feel Coastal Scents could have a bit of a better product in that the color doesn't go on super thick--it takes a handful of swipes to get the color how you want it.3
Blue. And green. Eyeshaddow. Uh, no, not for me. I love the idea of a neutral pallet, but as my skin is only blue or green when I'm bruised....1
I loved this. The colors I got in the sample were perfect for a smokey eye (which is what I usually wear). And the shadow stayed on all day and didn't smudge - total winner. I can't wait for this to be in stock again!5
Even though it was pressed shadow, the texture of the powder was unexpectedly soft and powdery. The shadow powder flies away as I put it on brush. It was particularly problematic with darker shade, of which I need a precise application. The color was nice though.2
When I opened my birchbox to find these samples, I was saddened to find that the only color I would love to use was broken. Completely shattered and everywhere. It was a nice shimmering pink. I like using pink and browns because they go well with my eye color. Instead, I was left with greens. I'm not too big on green for my eye shadow but I thought I would give it a try...Not for me.
Green just doesn't look good on me. I prefer a natural look, so I just can't love this sample. I wish my sample wasn't broken so that I could try all the colors, but alas poor packaging and shipping causes me to lose out.
I don't usually wear much eye makeup, but am always looking for something different for the weekends. The colors I got in my box will be great for fall and was easy to apply.4
