Some scents fade quicker than you can say “eau de toilette,” but this one lasts all day. Master Perfumer Thierry Wasser was inspired by his young niece to create this modern interpretation of Guerlain’s classic scent — which debuted way back in 1925 — after she challenged him to create a Shalimar for her. The resulting fragrance is a gorgeous blend of amber and floral notes. Leave it to the French to create a perfume that lingers well past your evening commute.
I think this fragrance is classy, but a little old fashioned, maybe for a woman older than myself (I'm in my 30s),3
First of all, this fragrance shares very little in common with the original Shalimar. It is very floral, very feminine powdery iris with a rich patchouli base that keeps it from being dainty. This fragrance initially was too powdery for me, but the more I wore it the more I grew to love it, so much that it is now one of my favorites in my collection (I own around 20 full size bottles, and many more travel size). One spray to the neck lasts the entire day, and against the warmth of skin it smells so good, especially as time goes on. I have receieved a ton of compliments when I wear this, and it is one of my boyfriend's favorites on me. Another thing to note is that this fragrance was discontinued by Guerlain earlier this year- it is a happy surprise that Birchbox carries it, as it's already reaching cult status among the perfume community.5
I have worn Shalimar off and on for over 30 years. No matter what fragrance I wear, Shalimar is the ONLY fragrance that men have stopped and asked what I am wearing. They love it, and want to buy it for their girlfriends and wives. There must be something about it....5
I really like the scent on a basic level, but it's strong and definitely a "dress-up" event fragrance. Saving my sample for a night out, but won't buy for my daily rotation.4
I didn't think I would love this, but I do!
The bottle seemed too much when I first got it.
But I took it on a work trip since the trial size bottle met the requirements and it smells very "fancy".
I wore it each day of my work trip and felt like a million bucks. Definitely great for a professional job workplace or a mature hot date. (I am 30 and married)
The scent was too flowery for me (I prefer sweeter and less floral, more caramel) but I am glad I tried it so now I know!1
Shalimar was a fragrance that my grandmother used. While classic, I still feel that it is dated and was not impressed with it.3
I'm more of a floral fruity fragrance lover. I'm leaving feedback because while the scent wasn't something up my alley the lasting power of this was amazing! If you like the amber/floral warm type scents pick this up! Not only will you enjoy the smell but it lasts all darn day. I wish I had fallen in love with the smell.4
I have the original that I received as a gift but it is a little strong for me and definitely seems like an "older" fragrance.2
It is a high quality perfume that lasts and lasts, but it's just not a scent for me. I love my CK Euphoria so much it's hard to compete, though!3
