Maybe it’s just us, but nothing is truly manly until you light it on fire. Take Campfire Cologne. This aromatic ode to the untamed trapper takes a direct approach to scent, conjuring the nostalgic smell of a burning fire with actual wood and flame. Sure, it’s more work than you’re used to, but so is fighting a bear, and you don’t see Jim Bowie complaining.
After getting over the initial shock that I payed $13 for a box of sticks, I sucked it up and gave it to my boyfriend for a Christmas gift anyways. We laughed about it, but he insisted he would try it.
Unfortunately, the thing won't light! We have tried everything and the sticks won't light on fire. We used the matches, a lighter, and even a blow torch. We tried using various kinds of kindle to get the fire started, and he even split the sticks in hope of a better light.
The end result is less than alluring, the smell that emits from these defective sticks and failed fires is foul and nothing anyone would voluntarily waft over themselves.
If paying $13 for sticks wasn't bad enough, I payed $13 for defective sticks that wouldn't light. I would not recommend, no cologne is better than this.
I was excited to find a Cologne that had campfire smell. However, received was a box of sticks and matches.. i have plenty of them in my back yard. Great gag gift.. but you can save money and make yourself.1
I have to admit this isn't what I thought it was. What arrived was a box of sticks and matches. I guess I should have read the entire description and reviews. But I have to say, I do enjoy the aroma it gives. My kitchen smells like a campsite after lighting a stick.4
My boyfriend is from the woods of New England - Think plaid shirts and big burley beards. This was a great gift for him for Christmas!5
Bought this as a silly gift for my husband. He thought it was fun, the packaging is really great and the idea is unique.4
I'll admit I wanted to like this, but it's really just some pieces of cedar wood that you light on fire and waft the smoke on yourself. Its not a bad thing, but its nothing special either. On the plus side it does smell good for the time its lit on fire. I don't know if I would repurchase it.3
If you love the smell of campfires, this is for you. The scent is spot on, the delivery is simple. I did have a little trouble with the matches because the cologne sticks don't catch fire quickly enough before the match burns down. Easy fix: just use a lighter. Bonus: these will last you for a LONG time, a little goes a very long way.5
I also didn't read closely and was irritated to find a box of matches. My husband and I laughed about it, but seriously save your money!1
I purchased this for my dad for Christmas and I can't wait to give it to him! It is a really creative gift, very well put together, and memorable. It is perfect for anybody who is a fan of the outdoors. The previous reviewer is correct -- you have to read carefully to understand that you are actually just buying a campfire in a box! But that is the fun of this product. Everything was packaged and designed perfectly and it all smelled authentic. I highly recommend.5
What you're purchasing here is, literally, a box of sticks and a matchbook. This is more or less laid out in the description, but it's easy to miss, especially since this product is called "Cologne" and the language is a bit flowery.
The idea is that you light the sticks on fire, blow them out and then waft the smoke towards you for a "natural cologne." The braver among you may love this. I am not one of them.
