We imagine that if the Egyptian queen ever visited the Big Apple, this is the polish she’d choose to wear. Inspired by the bright lights of the big city, Cleopatra in New York is glamorous with a bit of an edge. The black jelly-like base is packed with large pieces of hexagonal gold glitter that sparkle against the pitch-black polish. It’s unexpected and a little bit wild—just like New York City, and just like Cleopatra (especially in her Elizabeth Taylor incarnation).
Just the right amount of sparkle, and I love that the base color is almost black, but a few shades lighter. That color seems to be more universally faltering on skin tones. It would be fun as an Accent color on one nail with a dark colored mani or as an accent on the "reverse French manicure" style nails. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because glitter polishes like this one are a little rough to remove from your nails. Would love to hear other people's tips for protecting nails.
It's still worth it as a fun manicure option!!!
I love this polish! It is so pretty and goes on well. Deborah Lippmann didn't disappoint. It is a little difficult to remove, but that is to be expected with a glitter polish.4
I'm a huge Deborah Lippmann fan, but I admittedly tend to purchase at Sephora. Except, they don't carry this shade! It's definitely a must have. I've learned to browse the Birchbox shop more often.5
I was actually really lucky to find this on sale at a chain store. I'm glad I purchased it. I wore it over new years and received a lot of compliments on it. The polish lasts with minimal chipping for 2 weeks. I would gladly pay full price for Deborah Lippmann polishes.5
I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this nail polish! The black in it is more of a glaze, so it actually dries very quickly.
Additionally, with other glittery nail polish that I have tried, it can be tricky getting enough glitter on your nails. However, I didn't have to keep layering or dabbing on dollops of glitter to get the right look.
This took two coats for the black to show as black and not like a glaze. Also, looks great with all my fall clothes. I anticipate I will want to wear this all through the holiday season as well since it has a nice balance of whimsy and sophistication.
This polish is really beautiful and versatile.
It can be edgy or feminine, city or special occasion.
It does take a few coats to really get the black saturated and you'll need to devote some extra time to remove it when you're ready - but it is so worth it!
This looks so pretty and shiny and sparkly, I really like this nail polish. Lasts long, but also takes a little work to take it off. Still, I like it and don't mind the little extra trouble.4
This is a gorgeous polish, & I am obsessed with Deborah Lippmann. For me, the only downside is how difficult it is to remove.4
I did some good Cyber Monday shopping, and figured I'd pick up this gorgeous polish. I was going to give it as a gift, but when it arrived it was too pretty to let go! So I applied a base coat, three coats of this polish, and a top coat. It sparkled, it shined, it was perfect for the holidays. I'm a huge fan of black/gold glitter, and this polish looked great.
Then I started to notice the chips.
After a day, there were small chips along the edges of my nails. No problem, I filled in the patches and vowed to be a bit more careful. I've never had a polish chip on me that quickly, so I figured it was something I did. But it chipped and chipped again, ultimately looking horrendous by day three.
I know glitter polishes are a pain to remove, but I'd hoped that since this one chipped off so easily, removing it wouldn't be so bad. Wrong again. Total bummer to take off. The black base came off easily enough, but I had to scrape the glitter off my nails.
So frustrating! I expected better from a brand like DL.
