Want: Perfectly imperfect, tousled surfer-girl hair. Need: Oribe’s texturizing mousse, which delivers that coveted thick and piece-y look. And unlike drying seawater, this mousse hydrates strands and boosts shine—without making you smell like eau de seaweed.
My hair is curly but fine, thin and wimpy. I hoped this product would add some volume and texture. What I got instead was a sticky icky rat's nest. BIG disappointment.2
I really, really, really wanted to love this product. It smells great, has many positive reviews and I believed would make my hair look like I had just wrapped up a photoshoot for a sports magazine. None of that happened and my hair just ended up looking like a clump of hair. It was overly crunchy, it wouldn't move (end with a fan on it) and I couldn't wait to wash it out.2
I'm glad I spent points on this instead of just buying it right out. I was really unhappy with this product. I don't understand the YouTube hype about it. I have naturally curly hair so I was looking for something to hold my natural curls and tone down my frizz but this isn't the mousse for that. I might have missed a memo somewhere and this only works wonders for stick straight hair looking for Victoria Secret waves but I will not be repurchasing. I might give the mousse specifically for curly hair a try and see if that one works better but I won't be purchasing a mousse from Oribe for a while.2
Seriously. Don't put this on wet hair. I know it's weird, but use it on dry hair and it gives you nice texture. It's not really what I was looking for, but I kept it because I love the smell.3
very sticky and crunchy curls as a result. My hair felt instantly dirty. I tried 4x with smaller amounts each time. I have thin hair so may be wrong product for my hair type.3
My hair is naturally wavy and curly AND definitely frizzy. While this seemed to help with the frizz, it felt a little sticky and greasy. I may be using this incorrectly or just too much.3
I have short, straight and fine hair and this made my hair crunchy and not exactly beachy-cool. Like all Oribe products, it smells great.3
Occasionally I will just let my hair dry with going through the whole dry and curl time. This mouse works well. May work a little too well. I will have to use less so it doesn't stick bug hunks of hair together when you scrunch it.4
A little goes a long way! I have fine, frizzy, waves I put a GOLF BALL SIZE amount in my hands and work it threw my wet hair. I then make medium sized twists in my hair (front pieces always twist away from the face) let the twists air dry or blow dry then holding twists loose in your fingers and blow dry nozzle pointed down. If air drying you should manipulate hair with fingers as it drys to break up any stiffness.
Do this and you'll have incredible hair!
My stylist always finishes my hair with this product and it it great. Pros are that it gives you lots of control, shape and piece-y style where you apply it (for that easy tousled or styled look) and it smells great. My two cautionary comments are that: 1. I look great the day I use it, but the next morning I have a crazy post-product bed head of smooshed hair after I use this, so it's not for gals who don't wash their hair every day. And 2. you have to REALLY shake the can for 30 seconds or more to mix the ingredients inside so the mousse coming out of the can is the right combination of ingredients.
If you wash you hair every day, and you don't mind heavily shaken (not stirred) cannister management, try Surfcomber!
