Want: Perfectly imperfect, tousled surfer-girl hair. Need: Oribe’s texturizing mousse, which delivers that coveted thick and piece-y look. And unlike drying seawater, this mousse hydrates strands and boosts shine—without making you smell like eau de seaweed.
I'm glad I spent points on this instead of just buying it right out. I was really unhappy with this product. I don't understand the YouTube hype about it. I have naturally curly hair so I was looking for something to hold my natural curls and tone down my frizz but this isn't the mousse for that. I might have missed a memo somewhere and this only works wonders for stick straight hair looking for Victoria Secret waves but I will not be repurchasing. I might give the mousse specifically for curly hair a try and see if that one works better but I won't be purchasing a mousse from Oribe for a while.2
My hair is naturally wavy and curly AND definitely frizzy. While this seemed to help with the frizz, it felt a little sticky and greasy. I may be using this incorrectly or just too much.3
I have short, straight and fine hair and this made my hair crunchy and not exactly beachy-cool. Like all Oribe products, it smells great.3
My hair stylist taught me to use this product when you hair is dry. This is the perfect product for styling lobs. A little goes a long way...make sure to rub it in our palms first and then lightly touch on the areas where you want texture. I even put a little at the top of my crown for fly-aways. Just start with a little product because it can easily be too sticky and gross if you apply too much (I made that mistake the first time I used it).4
I actually use this product on my hair when its damp. Then I twist it into sections and let it dry. Once my hair is dry I scrunch my hair, separate some twists, etc. and I love the look. Yes, this product can be crunchy but if you use your hands to scrunch, twist, etc. your hair will be less crunchy. Like others have said, it does smell really good.4
Note, this is to be used on DRY hair. And, remember less is more. It's easier to add than to try to take away.
I use about a Ping-pong ball size and scrunch through my hair. The result is chunky pieces that look a little shiny but are also somewhat stiff (doesn't bother me). If you are looking for texture that adds some volume, this may be not be the best product as it can get a bit heavy.
This stuff works GREAT. IF you put it on right. It is LIKE GLUE. My hair sticks to my hands afterwards and I have to scrub to get it off. You have to dispense a tiny amount at a time and work in sections. It took me a few tries to get it right. The first time the top part of my hair was like a helmet and the underside was a frizzy mess. When I used less I got a better result. I'm in love with the smell.4
My hair is somewhere in-between wavy and straight but I love the beach wave look. I run this through my damp hair and it leaves a gentle tousled look but also smells great!4
I don't think this product made my hair feel hydrated but it did provide amazing hold. My waves lasted at least three days and could have gone longer if I had used dry shampoo.4
I've used several beach wave sprays but this is my first mousse. Mousse is the way to go! My hair is very straight but this product gives me curls. Bonus is smells great!4
