Gorgeous textiles aren’t the best (or only) thing to come out of Morocco. These days, everyone is abuzz about the country’s revered beauty treatments. This exotic shampoo, full of volcanic mud from the Atlas Mountains, purifies hair so thoroughly, you can skip your next shower without any dire consequences. Instead of the long list of artificial ingredients you’ll find in most shampoos, the minimal formula is designed to be nontoxic and gentle enough for children. Available in sweet Clementine and minty Menthe Vanilla.
I ordered this for myself because I was curious about washing my hair with mud and concerned about all the chemicals in regular shampoo. I had tried the no-poo method, but only made it about two weeks before I couldn't take it anymore. I really wanted to love the Mud-Poo. Sadly, this product was not the answer for my hair, but my husband tried it and absolutely loves it. He has fine, thin, oily hair and this makes it feel thicker with more body and he can go longer between washes. So now I regularly order this for him. Both scents are nice, but I prefer the Clemintine.4
This mud poo is a nice quality product, though it does require a little more than most to get all of my long, dense , curly hair covered and washed. When I do use this mud, I only have to wash my hair once a week at the most. It's also good for skin and body care. I like the smell of the clementine formula and love that it's non toxic for my kids as well.5
I was a skeptic I bought this on a whim because I love natural beauty/hygiene products and ive never tried Shaeterra before. I love the no poo method I have used baking soda and ACV and didn't care for the smell. Mud Poo is a bit different. It doesn't suds up but I love it. I have naturally oily hair so I need to wash daily or it looks flat and greasy and this stuff gives me texture and im on day 3 and its not greasy at all and still has a bit of volume. The only downfall is the price per size. Also recommend using a good leave in conditioner it really does help with the tangles.5
Honestly, every time I used this product, I felt like I needed to wash my hair again afterward. Maybe I'm just too used to my non-natural shampoos, but I have a lot of hair and in order to get to all of it I had to use almost half a bottle of this mud and then I felt like I couldn't rinse enough to get it all out. Just not a pleasant experience.2
I hate shampooing my hair! I use this and it cuts down the process in half. I just put product in and blow dry and I am done! I love the smell too5
I bought the vanilla-mint MudPoo as an alternative to harsh shampoos. I previously had researched going 'no poo' with baking soda and apple cider vinegar but decided I couldn't commit to that lifestyle -- plus, I LOVE buying products with fragrances I like, and baking soda just didn't cut it!
I wanted to find a more natural shampoo (and also decrease the frequency that I needed to shampoo) in an attempt to restore the ph balance on my scalp and help facilitate new hair growth since I have fine, thinning hair (due to heart medication).
I knew going into using this product that it wouldn't foam, would be a bit hard to spread around my scalp, and would make my hair straw-like if I didn't condition, so I enjoyed it for what it was - a between-shampoos product that treats my scalp gently, smells and feels awesome, and actually gives my fine, thin hair VOLUME!
If I want volume, I use the MudPoo the night before and don't condition. If I use the MudPoo the day of an event, I deep condition afterwards. My hair routine has gone from shampooing everyday and getting greasy by the end of the day to the following:
Day 1. Shampoo with no-sulfate shampoo
Day 2. Dry Shampoo
Day 3. Wear hair up
Day 4. Mud Poo
Day 5. Wear hair up
Day 6. Shampoo with no sulfate shampoo
This weekend I noticed new hair growth along my scalp line after following this pattern for about a month.
Since I use this only once a week it is lasting me a long time and is worth it. I will definitely repurchase.
Do not like this product at all. Makes my hair feel stiff and dirty even though it is rinsed throughly. I do like the smell and the tingle that it gives the scalp. Would not buy again.2
Make my hair nice a soft... Love the mint sensation on my scalp ... Love the whole mud philosophy as a shampoo ... I will buy as long as my hear loves it ... I get less breakage and hair chunks ... It's so soft ... One thing that i do wish of different is the pump it gets clogged up and you can't disperse anymore ... ... It should have a flip screw top...4
As a year-long natural, I've long known the benefits of rhassoul and bentonite mud on cleansing. So its inability to foam, etc was in no way surprising. I avoid sulphates, parabens and such so this mud wash was a plus for me. An added plays was I ran out of my Kiehl's facial mud so I used this stuff and it was so ridiculously cooling and drying that I knew this would also be a great go to going forward. It's a two for one. Happiness.4
I'm shocked by the negative reviews! Just kidding, I am totally not shocked. This product does not lather, does not have some grande silicone silkening effect, and needs a little bit of getting used to (as well as a good shake before each use). It is refreshing (very tingly and clean feeling if you get the mint!) and leaves hair shiny and clean. I do have short-ish hair, I've not tried it on really long hair, maybe that's the difference? I really like this and will repurchase when mine is gone, as well as recommend it to men especially. Short hair, tingly freshness, perfect after the gym shower-dude product.5
