You think Tommy Edison could have invented the lightbulb with chapped lips? Well, maybe, but one thing’s for sure: Dry lips are uncomfortable and distracting. Luckily, the geniuses at longtime apothecary C.O. Bigelow, where Edison was a patron, have developed this little lip balm that does big work. Made with shea butter, it moisturizes and heals your lips while you sleep, leaving you to focus on your own bright ideas.
Okay so, first of all this product was VERY sticky. I tend to sleep on my stomach, so when I woke up, this product was all over my pillow. Morning after I used it, I looked in the mirror. I still had cracked and dry lips. It seemed to me to be another average lip balm, and something that worked at drug store quality. Not the good type of drug store quality either.1
I am a connoisseur of sorts to lip products, and
this one was an imposter. Initially, it was great; went on well and stayed on leaving my lips in kissable fashion by morning. However, after a couple of weeks of regularly applying the balm at night, my lips were chapped, cracked and clearing suffering from this lip balm. As a test, I ceased use for a month, got my lips back to normal; I began applying this balm before bed and within a week my lips looked and felt horrible. I love the brand, but would beware this product.
I have very sensitive skin and this balm broke me out all around my mouth and left my lips red. After I stopped using this product, my lips went back to normal and my skin got better. I thought it was reacting with another product, but every time I tried it, my skin reacted the same way. I purchased at Bath & Body works (CO Bigelow's sister company under Limited Brands), and ended up throwing it out. Make sure to try it before you buy it!1
I found this night balm to be quite "sticky". I felt like I had to be extra careful that I didn't stick to my pillow case and I would wake in the morning to find that it runs. I may try applying a clear lip liner beforehand and see if that helps. Other than the annoyance of consistency, the product does work. It makes my lips much softer upon waking.2
This is straight up the stickiest lip product I have ever tried. I have big lips & I have tried SO many different products & this is by far bottom of my list. There was no way I was able to use this during the day so I tried it at night. There wasnt a great enough difference though so it wasnt worth it. There are many other (cheaper) products out there.
Smells great though!
I thought this C.O. Bigelow lip product would be more intensive healing than the others, but I was disappointed because I found it wasn't any more moisturizing than the other products in the line (not to mention some competitor brands that I prefer overall). Also, the scent and taste were not as nice as some of the other products. Plus, the tube is smaller but the same price! I would not recommend this product. If you want C.O. Bigelow lip care, try one of the other balms or glosses offered.2
I purchased this because I was looking for an overnight lip treatment. This definitely has some good ingredients, and I enjoy the scent (which I think is shea butter). I don't think it works for 8 hours. I've found it to be more effective under a balm because it seems to seal in the moisture, but I don't want to use two products. Some mornings I also wake up with some flakiness, which can be fixed with a quick lip scrub.3
This night balm stays on pretty much all night, but I don't really notice a big difference in how my lips feel in the morning.3
This balm is OK. I put it on my lips every night and though most of the time it leaves them soft, other times they are still chapped. I do use it sometimes during the day also. Vaseline works the same as this product. I would not purchases it again. Definitely Not worth the money.3
This is a great product to repair chapped lips while you sleep. Definitely too thick for the daytime. The problem for me is the vanilla scent/flavor, not a fan. If you like vanilla, you will probably love this balm.3
